Former President George W. Bush may finally upstage Dick Cheney this week. After months of silence while Cheney has been blasting away at President Obama, Bush is scheduled to make two semi-public appearances.

Tonight he'll speak to to the Economic Club of Southwest Michigan at Lake Michigan College. It's being billed as his first major speech to an American audience. The news media will be allowed to attend the event, but not record it. Right.

"My take on these two speeches is that Bush will deliver platitudes, blow kisses and try his best to be liked."

Whatever he says, I'm betting it will be faithful to those two thoroughly discredited slogans, "compassionate conservatism" and "new tone in Washington".

In other words, Bush continues to be a disappointment to conservatives, his good work to contain terrorists notwithstanding--that was his sworn duty. Too many other responsibilities either ignored or bungled.

I expect him to stick with tradition and not criticize The One. That is partly respect for the Office, and partly because he and Cheney are playing a game of good cop/bad cop with them.

Perhaps you were simply a terrible listener.

X2

I never understood why the media and liberals painted President Bush in that corner... at least President Bush kept us safe after 9/11. I liked his speeches... and he didn't need no stinkin' teleprompter.

Not necessarily good news. Cheney is a far better defender of George W. Bush's policies on national security than Bush ever was.

Maybe Bush will join Powell and condemn Cheney, maybe he will actually announce his approval of Obama and switch along with his buddy, Spector. What an embarrassment that would be for the Bushbots. Of course, at that point we will find their true allegiance they also decide to permanently leave FR website and go to the DU.

That's true but when you consider that the people only had GWB to compare against him, he was a winner by a mile.

“You ARE being sarcastic, right? I do wish President Bush would, for once, come out fighting.”

He’s not going to come out fighting because he’s one of the “new toners” like powell, and ridge.

If he had any balls, he would have revoked the press credentials of 99% of the liberal hacks in the WH press corps and would have went after outlets such as the NY Times for giving material aid to the enemy by leaking top secret information.

I agree.

Bush had a Republican Congress for six years. And his major achievement during that time? He added a major new entitlement program.

He also doubled the budget of the Department of Education, in under four years.

Look, we both have to give him his due on the WOT, but why would he think it necessary to do that in reaction to terrorism on our soil, and yet think it a good idea to allow 30,000 Saudi Nationals to attend our schools on student visas? And the southern border, thousands of five man teams could have entered and he couldn’t have cared less. And frankly, we have no idea whatsoever if they did or didn’t.

We don’t know that there aren’t literally thousands of sleeper cells in the United States just waiting for the proper time. Korea, Iran, China vs Tiawan, the Palestinians with Arabs in tow, Russia... we don’t know what the future holds. We don’t know that a concerted effort will not be launched that will swamp our resources, and have us facing hell on our own soil too.

And yet, the sleep-walking eight years proceeded as it did.

Any way you slice it, Bush hurt us.

Bush was given the opportunity to be a great leader, or his nation and his party. He did what had to be done with regard to 9/11, and this will drive you nuts, I don’t think that given the anger of the time, Al Gore could have done any differently. Regarding his party, he had no more interest in it than his father did. Oh, and by the way, I don’t expect the American public to get down on its knees and give thanks for the blood and sweat I have given to this nation. It is expected of all of us.

Before he was first elected, I heard President Bush speak. The no jacket, sleeves rolled up George Bush I heard that evening was positive, funny, relaxed, as he was during his campaigning, then and 2004.

No, President George W. Bush is not a speaker, and I did my share of cringing, when the media chose to cover him. But, I would take President Bush’s sincerity, his honesty, his caring, his being just George, any day over a manboy who can not speak at all with out his teleprompter.

Also, I am very proud of the most unpopular, most disliked, the man the media said was really running the WH, Vice President Dick Cheney.

Go get them, Bush and Cheney, don’t let them get away with anything!

I am not being sarcastic; you even admit yourself that you would like him “for once” to come out fighting. His father never would. Don’t expect it of the son.

"I abandoned the Free Market to save it"

You are damed right he did! Do some research and learn something.

Secret "closed door" meeting with Congress (3/14/08)
Not only did members discuss new surveillance provisions as was the publicly stated reason for the closed door session, they also discussed:
1. the imminent collapse of the U.S. economy to occur by September 2008,
2. the imminent collapse of US federal government finances by February 2009,
3. the possibility of Civil War inside the USA as a result of the collapse

Kanjorski and the 550bil
Live Leak? | 3-2-2009 | Sequoyah101
Rep. Kanjorski: $550 Billion Disappeared in "Electronic Run On the Banks"
starting at 2:08 into the clip.

Look, I was there when the Secretary and the Chairman of the Federal Reserve came those days and talked with members of Congress about what was going on. It was about September 15th. Here's the facts, and we don't even talk about these things.

On Thursday [which would have been 9-11] at about 11 o’clock in the morning the Federal Reserve noticed a tremendous draw down of money market accounts in the United States to the tune of $550-billion was being drawn out in in a matter of an hour or two. The Treasury opened up its window to help and pumped a $105-billion into the system, and quickly realized that they could not stem the tide.
We were having an electronic run on the banks.

[AKA an Economic Terrorist Attack]

Decided to close down the accounts and announce a guarantee of 250k per account so there wouldn’t be further panic out there, and that’s what actually happened.

If they had not done that their estimation was that by 2:00 that afternoon,

5.5 TRILLION would’ve been drawn out of the MM system of the US,

would’ve collapsed the entire economy of the US and

w/in 24 hours the world economy would have collapsed.

Now we talked at that time about what would happen if that happened. It would have been the end of our economic system and our political system as we know it.
And that’s why when they made the point, we’ve got to act and do things quickly we did it.

Can’t the Bush family just go away?

Perhaps Melchior and the BDSers could just go away instead?
