Were getting a lot of e-mail on this story, and its not hard to see why. Kindred Hospital in Mansfield, Texas took down an American flag after getting complaints from Debbie McLucas co-workers and patients, who thought the display of the flag was offensive. McLucas, whose daughter is serving in Iraq, wonders whether her daughter has risked her life for nothing:
When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. I was just totally speechless. I was like, Youre kidding me, McLucas said.
McLucas husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.
Stifling a cry, McLucas said, I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing.
McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said the supervisor took down Debbies flag herself.
The flag and the pole had been placed on the floor, McLucas said. But McLucas also said hospital higher ups had told her some patients families and visitors had also complained.
I was told it wouldnt matter if it was only one person, she said. It would have to come down.
In one very limited sense. McLucas makes the wrong argument. The property belongs to her employer, not herself, and they have the right to set the conditions of the workplace, within the safety regulations of the local, state, and federal laws. Technically, she doesnt have the right to display the flag at her workstation, and the large flag she displays for the camera might have provided a basis for complaint on limited space or other considerations.
However, according to McLucas, that wasnt the reason they took down her flag.

I think I would find something about the "14 year" American and complain that it offended me.
Any flag that hits the ground is supposed to be burned. I wonder what would have been burned in that African woman’s country.
Should have taken a stand and refused to take it down.
Ya want me to remove it? NO and if you touch it I’ll kick your ass.
Fire me and I’ll find a REAL a hole lawyer to sue this company.
No get the f back to work.
I have been telling folks on the site that there areo9ne heck of a lot of democRATs in Texas. While we have a statewide majority right now it was a RAT state for 100+ years and seems to be trending back. I blame the message machine. Few Republicans seem to be able to tell people what is the benefit of lwoer taxes and less government. Two days of comparing our government to Kalifornia would do it, but see if you ever hear anything like that on radio or TV. If you don’t tell the people what good you do they will think the worst.
Just wondering if she hung the flag in honor of Memorial Day Weekend and Memorial Day on Monday...what a sick bunch of anti-American thugs.
People were outside of the hospital protesting this afternoon. It’s all over our local news and radio. Kindred is going to lose business over this, at least locally. We leave in South Arlington, and we will make sure our friends and family don’t darken their doors.
Doesn’t make sense to me - once you’re from Africa (or anywhere else, for that matter), you’re always from there...unless you happen to be a Marxist mulatto bastard from Kenya, I guess ;)
Her daughter is an Army medic on a second tour in Iraq. I suspect she uses the flag to help get though the day.
I love your thinking, you should run for public office. Joe you are the man!!!
I ran my own company for 20 years.
And I don’t take a lot of guff.
I don't usually take this tact, but....if you don't like it, then get the f*ck out. I'm sick of this crap.
Well said!!!
Legally my position would probably be wrong but I do not give a damn. Tell me to remove my flag and we WILL have a problem.
Funny thing, I hae always had an American Flag on my truck.
Use to take a little ribbing from liberal friends because of it.
After 9-11 I noticed many of those who teased me suddenly had one appear one their vehicles.
