Were getting a lot of e-mail on this story, and its not hard to see why. Kindred Hospital in Mansfield, Texas took down an American flag after getting complaints from Debbie McLucas co-workers and patients, who thought the display of the flag was offensive. McLucas, whose daughter is serving in Iraq, wonders whether her daughter has risked her life for nothing:
When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. I was just totally speechless. I was like, Youre kidding me, McLucas said.
McLucas husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.
Stifling a cry, McLucas said, I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing.
McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said the supervisor took down Debbies flag herself.
The flag and the pole had been placed on the floor, McLucas said. But McLucas also said hospital higher ups had told her some patients families and visitors had also complained.
I was told it wouldnt matter if it was only one person, she said. It would have to come down.
In one very limited sense. McLucas makes the wrong argument. The property belongs to her employer, not herself, and they have the right to set the conditions of the workplace, within the safety regulations of the local, state, and federal laws. Technically, she doesnt have the right to display the flag at her workstation, and the large flag she displays for the camera might have provided a basis for complaint on limited space or other considerations.
However, according to McLucas, that wasnt the reason they took down her flag.

If someone removed the flag from my office and placed it on the floor there wouldn’t be enough left of them to have a funeral....
There are several funny ‘smells’ about this story.
First, I’d like to meet patients or families of the patient who were offended by the flag. This supervisor who utilized the comment...I believe to be a liar. I’ll even openly say it to their face, here and now, if they want.
The African supervisor...I would have serious doubts over her supervisory and communications skills. How did she move up in management? How did she make up for her weaknesses? These are questions that any professional hospital would have to ask now.
The African supervisor...has her name in full text around the hospital emails right now. At least 100 members of the staff know who the gal is. In Texas, this act carries a bit of gravity. Had this been a Texas flag that she’d taken down...it would have twice as bad. I’m thinking she’ll find herself ridiculed.
And if the supervisor is that contemptuous of the country hosting him/her, why is he/she still here?
While getting their taxpayer subsidized health care....
“Send the supervisor's ass back to Africa and the patients back across the Rio Grande.”
And tell the African to take the Kenyan president with them.
“I offended” = I’m offended
When all the excitement dies down McLucas will be put on the slow track to being let go at the first opportunity. The boss, the supervisor, and the other unnamed people go on as before.
Yes... the ( ...numerous comments ... ) thread linked at post #11...had several comments about that little fact.
I hope they make her lawyer's day :)
Well, to my mind there’s a big difference between removing a flag from display and dumping it on the floor. To my mind, anyway, the latter makes this about what the supervisor did and not McLucas.
Yes, if people would just have to fear a minor ass-kicking for getting out of bounds on “normal” and “American”,
we’d all get along a lot better.
And I am NOT being sarcastic.
will they also take down all the homo propaganda? bumper stickers, rainbow peace signs, etc. what about the che guevara shirts and posters?
so... if it offends me, i can report it and it WILL be taken down? really??
hmmm, this might work. first, cnn and msnbc in airports...

Could be; who knows? But whatever, that immigrant had no right to remove the woman’s flag and put it on the FLOOR. Talk about your disrespect! The American flag is never to touch the ground in that way!
If I were the flag’s owner I’d have picked it up and wrapped it around myself and sat there the rest of the day like that. I would dare them to make me take it down.
If this were some other country, I could understand the uproar. But this is (still) the USA and that is our flag and we should be able to display it!
Yes! That’s exactly what I meant. Sometimes, you just have to take one for the team. Stupid liberals may have a hate crime law or the sypathetic media on their side, but they’ll still get their asses kicked and they don’t like that.
I am over trying to reason with people. I put up an American flag, gays shouldn’t be able to marry, the border should be CLOSED, and Baarrack Obama is a narcissistic, communist boob! What are you going to do about it, liberals?!!
This is part of the “irreconcilable” part of our differences with the left.
If they want to live in their own little PC world, fine,
BUT WE DON’T. And everything the left is doing these days is about forcing their values and “morals” on the rest of us. Precisely what they claim conservatives do.
Let us have our state sovereignty, and leave us the hell alone.
I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing.
Re: “Many on the left are sooooooo offended by the sight of an American flag. Now they equate this with being nationalistic= FASCIST and militaristic. I have a good few shirts with our flag on them, one in commemoration of 9/11 and you should see the looks I get. Now there isnt anything written on them that could be interpretated as militaristic or offensive. If I wore a Che shirt or a Peace sign shirt, theyd have no problem. I do confess to wearing ty dye shirts...LOL”
*******
Yes, the left hates to see the flag! I wear flag attire often — I fly the flag outside my home in L.A. every day of the year, have a flag sticker on my car AND a “Don’t Tread on Me” sticker on the car as well. Think I’m popular in this neighborhood?
But the wimpy limp-wristed leftist neighbors don’t say a word; unfortunately some of them still have zero’s bumper stickers on their own vehicles, along with other leftist drivel like “COEXIST” (with the various symbols inserted in it) — you may be familiar with that sticker, and the ancient ‘1.20.2009’ stickers they have not bothered to remove since the Kenyan was ‘inaugurated.’
If this sort of thing keeps up, vis-a-vis the American flag, I may have to just paint a big flag on my house. We have no homeowners association here to interfere.
I’m tiored of snot nosed punks, those that hide under the skirts of the socialist’s manufactured racism. Enough is enough... call the dirtbags what they are and let the chips fall where they may.
We have affirmative action Generals, and an affirmitive action Negro president that have got where they are because nobody will stand and call them on it. The fuse is growing short ... time to recapture sesnibility.
We should send all of the people who did not like our Flag and the people who agree with them back to where they came from. They got here on a HB1B Vista to keep Americans from getting a job. Work at Hospital that is taking no telling how much from Medicare, then throwing our FLAG on the floor.
