The smartest president in U.S. history seems to have confused Memorial Day with Veterans Day:
President Barack Obama saluted veterans and urged his countrymen to do the same this Memorial Day weekend, saying the nation has not always paid them proper respect.
In his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday, Obama said people can honor veterans by sending a letter or care package to troops overseas, volunteering at health clinics or taking supplies to a homeless veterans center. He said it could also mean something as simple as saying "thank you" to a veteran walking by on the street.
****
"That is what Memorial Day is all about," Obama said. "It is about doing all we can to repay the debt we owe to those men and women who have answered our nation's call by fighting under its flag. It is about recognizing that we, as a people, did not get here by accident or good fortune alone."
Someone might want to explain to the President that it is a little difficult to say "thank you" or send care packages to the deceased.
Moving pictures. Thank you.
Yes. I believe you are right about that.
Heh. How would a simple scumbag like Zero - - or any other limp-wristed liberal for that matter - - know anything at all about military tradition and protocol, or the special days on which we honor the veterans and the fallen?
I think you’re right, especially after the interview I just read where he talks about being smarter or knowing more than this and that staff or advisors. Good, then he’ll take full blame for the coming catastrophe, because if he’s smarter than everyone, he should’ve known what to do. Right?
You just nailed it!
We used to call Memorial Day, “Decoration Day.”
Maybe that title made it clearer that we were honoring deceased military men and women, by decorating their graves and memorials.
Our current POTUS is such a f—king asshole. He really pisses me off. Every time he goes to Arlington he dishonors my brother’s grave. /anger off
Thanks for the heads up to Post 14. Hope all went well with your weekend. I saw Lurker Bill and Jewels in DC yesterday along the parade route along with another FReeper. I was close enough to say “HI” as our Lions contingent went by them.
The 3PM National Moment of Silence was sobering. The whole parade stopped, everyone in the parade went silent, then the spectators went silent. Then bands that had a bugler, they all played taps. That is all one could hear reverberated between the buildings. When it was over everyone clapped.
RE the rain, we were in the middle of the parade and were finished when it started to sprinkle. Parade was over when the real rain came down.
All and all it was a good weekend for [Mrs] T and I.
There is still an empty section in our little cemetery that was set aside for veterans long ago.
They knew of the potential sacrifice and planned for it.
God Bless our Brave Armed Services
