Colin Powell fires back at Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney

In the latest round of the increasingly heated intra-GOP feud, former Secretary of State Colin Powell Sunday defended his Republican credentials and fired back at radio host Rush Limbaugh and former Vice President Dick Cheney, saying the party had to expand beyond its conservative base.

“Rush will not get his wish and Mr. Cheney was misinformed – I am still a Republican,” Powell said in a much-anticipated interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation” two weeks after Cheney suggested on the same show that the retired general had left the party by endorsing Barack Obama last fall.

Powell outlined his party bona fides, noting his votes for and services under a string of Republican presidents, and said it was not up to Cheney and Limbaugh – the radio host has kept up a steady drumbeat of criticism since Powell's cross-party endorsement last year – to determine who belonged in the GOP.

“Neither [Cheney] nor Rush Limbaugh are members of the membership committee of the Republican Party,” Powell said...

[Tom] Ridge also split with Cheney on the vice president's claim that Obama's policies were making Americans less safe. "I do not" agree with that, Ridge plainly told CNN's John King, adding, "Yeah, I disagree with Dick Cheney."

Powell is correct. If the party has no foundational truths, then anyone with any set of beliefs fits right in.

Powell is a RINO.

To be a RINO you need to be a Republican. When you endorse, fight for the Democrat nominee for President because of his skin color, you are not a Republican. You are a simple racist and have no place in the Republican Party

I don't recognize you as one, Mr. Powell.

Powell says the GOP must move away from the right. In 2008, the GOP did just that, running McCainiac.

Did Powell support the “moderate” GOP candidate he is now lecturing us that we must have?

No, he voted for an ultra-leftist.

Powell needs to be swept out with the rest of the garbage. He has as much credibility as Specter the Defecter.

There seems to be a lot of that voting because of skin color going around and it is not the Republican party doing it.

The Media, including Fox Radio, cannot understand that “Democrat-Light” is not an option for Republicans if they wish to remain the Constitution Defending Bulwark of Political Parties.

I’m tired of the Powell-types thinking that THEY have the right to decide where Republicans go and that Staunch Conservatives are somehow “extremists” who should sit down and shut up.

If Chairman Steele doesn’t get busy setting up five or eight agenda points that are set in stone and have Republicans in Congress sign on the dotted line to be considered a Republican, the TEA/Independent Party will become the dominant Constitution Defending Traditional Conservative Party.

Powell is a RINO.

One of those very rare black RINOs.

Has Powell ever made a statement against a Democrat, criticizing the Dem for being too Leftist?

*********Well, either Powell supported Obama because they’re both black, which means he’s a racist, or supported him because he supports his policies, which means he’s not a Republican.*********

There is no doubt in my mind —————yours??????

not the Republican party doing it

It's individuals in that party that are 'doing it' - and now they are exposed and don't like it. They don't want to be aligned w/the liberals, yet they vote for them. It shows there is something about themselves they don't like and can't come to grips w/it. They need to thank Cheney and Rush for helping them take off that false face.

I agree General. In looking back at the campaign, you’re correct, the multi-racial, closet homo, muslim, anti-American, fascist was clearly the best candidate to lead,...to the total destruction of capitalism, freedom, liberty, opportunity and national defense.

Which times did Colon vote for Carter, (he had two shots at him, and needs to do some more 'splainin')?

Hey Colin. You can call yourself anything you want and I’m sure the press will eat it up. That does not mean real republicans and conservatives will take you seriously. You’re not an active duty general anymore so don’t expect automatic respect or adulation. Many of us who were career military don’t consider you to be the hero of the Gulf War; you were the chief admin clerk, not the guy at the front. You supported the would-be fuhrer whose goal is to dismantle the Constitution so no, you are not a republican, just delusional to believe that republicans will believe that you are.
