In the latest round of the increasingly heated intra-GOP feud, former Secretary of State Colin Powell Sunday defended his Republican credentials and fired back at radio host Rush Limbaugh and former Vice President Dick Cheney, saying the party had to expand beyond its conservative base.
Rush will not get his wish and Mr. Cheney was misinformed I am still a Republican, Powell said in a much-anticipated interview on CBSs Face the Nation two weeks after Cheney suggested on the same show that the retired general had left the party by endorsing Barack Obama last fall.
Powell outlined his party bona fides, noting his votes for and services under a string of Republican presidents, and said it was not up to Cheney and Limbaugh the radio host has kept up a steady drumbeat of criticism since Powell's cross-party endorsement last year to determine who belonged in the GOP.
Neither [Cheney] nor Rush Limbaugh are members of the membership committee of the Republican Party, Powell said...
[Tom] Ridge also split with Cheney on the vice president's claim that Obama's policies were making Americans less safe. "I do not" agree with that, Ridge plainly told CNN's John King, adding, "Yeah, I disagree with Dick Cheney."

Limbaugh si, Powell no.
Powell is a RINO.
Hey General!
What did the Dems do following their losses in the 2004 election?
They went out and found the guy with MOST LIBERAL VOTING RECORD IN THE U.S. SENATE!
Is THAT your idea of moving to the center to gain votes?
In the middle of the road all you get is run over!
You proved that by abandoning the most centrist candidate Republicans have ever nominated!
Powell couldn’t win a GOP primary..anywhere.
Well, either Powell supported Obama because they’re both black, which means he’s a racist, or supported him because he supports his policies, which means he’s not a Republican.
Which is it, Colin?
“Fires back”? Really?
I’d say he “duds back.”
Is this the best Powell can come up with? He is on the Republican party’s membership committee???? Oh yes, this carries a lot of weight. < /sarcasm>
I used to think quite highly of Powell, but the more he opens his mouth, the more disgusted I become.
Message to Tom Ridge: North Korea just made a successful test of its newest nuke. Do you feel safer today with Obama’s strong condemnation - or would you perhaps like to have Dick Cheney back in the VP spot? C’mon now, be honest!
What a bunch of ego-inflated blowhards.
Colin Powell fires back at Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney
...and misses.
Powell’s quite the genius...
He endorses the top Democrat in the Democratic party and then demands that he’s more Republican than the Republicans who challenge him...
Democrats already have a party. Go make it official and join them.
Powell may be a Republican, but he’ll find it hard to defend his vote for Obama and stay in the party. Obama is a Leftist street hustler. McCain is one of those middle of the road Republicans Powell says we need.
Which is it Mr. Powell are you a moderate Republican or a racist?
Republicans are not racists.
I really wish someone would tell him to shut the he**-up.
Powell, is playing right into the commies hand, divide and conquer. Probably, he knows that is the effect, after all, he endorsed Obama..
Perhaps his presence on the GOP membership committee is a big part of the problem with the GOP.
If he was a RINO he would have supported McCain. He supported Obama. That either makes him a democrat or a racist.
Powell’s endorsement of Obama over the RINO McCain last fall is not the action of a Republican. He has left the building and is stooging for the DNC.
NAILED!!
Republican credentials? Like what?
All he wants is the destruction of conservatism. The whole contry should be based on the Detroit/New Orleans model according to liberals like Powell.
Isn't this obvious to Conservatives and Republicans? What the heck is going on in our country? Have we all become so incredibly stupid that we can no longer discern between right and wrong? May God have mercy on our nation.
