N. Korea couples nuclear blast with missile launch: source

By Sam Kim

SEOUL, May 25 (Yonhap) -- North Korea appears to have test-fired a short-range missile Monday on its east coast after it conducted its second nuclear test, a South Korean source said.

The missile, with an estimated range of 130 kilometers, was fired from the coastal site where North Korea launched its long-range rocket on April 5, the source said.

The latest launch comes as tension peaks on the Korean Peninsula after North Korea claimed it succeeded in detonating a more powerful nuclear device in its northeastern region.

"The U.S. and South Korean authorities are working together to assess the missile launch," the source said.

North Korea conducted its first nuclear test in October 2006.

Nothing in particular, I think. It flew out to the sea and into the water.
They sent out warning advisory to ships about a week ago.

At least two of them breaking out side by side.
Axis of Evil would like to go for knock-out blow, if they have a chance. Now they could have tempting window of opportunity, if Zero stumbles along.

Liberal ineptitude creating hairy global crisis. Would not be the first time such scenario plays out.

To look at media reports, Seems like noone really cares if NK tests! The world has seen almost ZERO nuke tests in the last decade. (Except maybe the Indian nuclear tests in 1998, and later Pakistani ones). Does anyone remmebber the furore there was over those? SO how come NK doesnt arouse any interest?

In and out of itself, not much. However, it could encourage proliferation among N. Korea's neighbor and others in the world. If N. Korea got away with it, why not they?

Besides, N. Korea would love to share its know-how with other like-minded partners. N. Korea will always to find a way to draw attention of U.S. and force it to make a deal they want. U.S. recognition of N. Korea along with U.S. security guarantee of NK's regime and economic assistance. And removal of all U.S. troops.

In essence, they want U.S. to choose N. Korea over S. Korea.

This doesn't mean that NK would dismantle its nuke program when it gets what it wants. NK will keep it anyway.

It would be interesting to find many so-called conservatives who think they can solve N. Korean nuke problem by dismissing it. Is it because they want to cover up for Hill-Rice-Bush debacle on N. Korea? Or simply because they are reality-challenged libertarians? Or is just Foggy Bottom speaking?

North Korea released a statement in Russia just now, through the ITAR-TASS Agency (this coming from a DPRK Embassy official), that

"if North Korea is threatened or punished for today's actions, it will respond again with additional nuclear tests."

Audio of North Korean Radio announcing, in the usual vitriolic and threatening voice, the nuclear test today, HERE.

Just hit the arrow in the orange box, the video will stream. At :24 seconds into the video, the spokeswhore in Pyongyang comes on announcing the test.

Video link might be good for another 1/2 day or so.

This is from a Japanese TV news website.

“if North Korea is threatened or punished for today’s actions, it will respond again with additional nuclear tests.”

OK, no problem, they will soon run out of them...

I assume that they have at most 5, have you read any recent estimate?

"who's to guess where Mr. Obama's crises is going to be ?"

I suspect that it will come out of the blue. In other words, it won't be any of the obvious ones, that we would expect.

That's usually the way life works. It's the thing you aren't watching that sneaks up and bites you.

That said, it will be interesting to see how ineptly Ø, Clinton, and the rest of the lackeys, handle it. Badly, I suspect, as these aren't people who think well on their feet. They can plan and scheme with the best of the world's criminals, but in a real, unexpected crisis - they will look like the Keystone Cops.

Not less than five, perhaps no more than 10-15, more than enough to cause trouble, particularly if materials are given to another of our enemies. DPRK’s attitude at this time is, enemy of my enemy is my friend. They could even consider outreach to Hamas, Hezbollah or even al-Qaeda if necessary, and desperate for cash.

O can't allow this to derail his domestic policies. Anything short of the world burning will only be ignored, and everyone knows it.
