HAZLET, N.J. (AP) - The owner of a New Jersey pest control company has been charged with animal cruelty after a squirrel was found dead in a rooftop trap.
Chief Buddy Amato says a professional complex hired Critter Ridder to help get rid of the squirrel. He says a trap was set Wednesday for the animal, and no one returned to check on it.
Amato says the squirrel was found "cooked to death on the hot roof" Thursday afternoon.
Buck faces four counts of animal cruelty, including one that cites her for not providing the squirrel with adequate food, water and shelter.

Those things are a PIT-A. Needle nose pliers...feet...It is sort of humorous tracking down the "phlip phlip phip" sound though. Normal snap traps are the way to go. Pry up the spine on the bait pan and rotate a peanut half, sort of drill it onto the spike. Lasts forever and they will never be able to steal it.
Even the terrorist miscreants get better treatment at Gitmo, and we all know how evil that place is.
Critter Ridder is guilty of war crimes.
Don’t be so quick to judge, Dale. I knew a woman who rescued a squirrel baby, nursed it to squirrel maturity and he was her slave in devotion. You could actually see the love he had for her in his little beady eyes. His willingness and attempts to do what his mistress wanted so reflected reality between men and women that it nearly convinced me that men are here merely to be the pets of womankind.
Nearly or are we? The mystery continues. Now that I think on it the male friends I have who are married or committed refuse to talk about this. Hmmm. Another day I dismiss asking “scamdate” to hook me up.
And I thank that squirrel for another day of being free of the cage and an obligatory session on the exercise wheel.
Studies say I’m wrong - married men live longer. Maybe they’re being fed better kibble to perpetuate their productive existences to max out benefits for the survivors. I DO know the older folks get the more mercenary their purposes. Get that bun in the oven, secure or latch onto somone else’s assets or just plain kill their mate in a disingenuous way for a profit.
That’s not cynical. This is what the very wealthy have to consider because of the lure of wealth. That’s a curse I’m glad to not have to deal with. The wealthy always have to doubt those around them while never being secure in their minds. I know of a case myself who cut me low yet I feel sorrier for him for misjudging. That’s on him.
On the good foot had he passed on and I’d been dealing with with his wife I might have been outrightly killed by accident. There’s the gender difference.

Deal sometime with the damage that a squirrel or raccoon can do in an attic. You will become an advocate for the total worldwide eradication of the species!
Ditto!!! They are in the walls of the condo where I live and are chewing electrical wires! That fact makes relaxing to go to sleep at night an act of Faith!
I wonder if the 15000 French old people who died in the August heat wave a few years ago, suffered of if they just “went to sleep” as the heat dehydration overtook them?
I wonder how many people were prosecuted for abandoning these old human beings?

Aborting 8 month old babies is ok however.
During my career working for line utility companies more than once I launched squirrels and other such species into orbit. Catch one mid-span on a cable , hit said cable with line wrench,see animal in orbit. LOL
Taste like chicken? Nope. But very good. I eat 3 or 4 fox squirrels each year. Love them.
I “set free” a free roaming cat that ate lunch, a can of tuna, in my Have-a-heart. So it did have a last supper.
All babies are nice!!!! Except for the cold bloodied type! That means you would be left out!!!

Of course she does. < facepalm > Does this mean mousetraps are illegal now? Or just that any trap has to have internet connectivity so you can go give the varmint its last rites before you kill it?

As for this issue, I already said that humans should not be punished for the death, even the death by torture as in this case, of vermin, especially since it was accidental. And if you read the last sentence in my post, you know that I recommend instant-death traps for such creatures so that slow and painful death in a "humane" trap is prevented.

I cannot think that dying from heat is as bad for a squirrel as it must have been for the elderly abandoned French folks.
They all died from not having anyone check on them.
Who even remembers the abandoned French people? Or even the elderly in Chicago who died alone in their homes in a heat wave years ago.
Yet a freaky ‘animal’ rights activist will cause major damage to the business, bank account and life of the person who set the trap.

It will cost them thousands of dollars to defend themselves over abuse of a squirrel and probably put them out of business.
That’s insane.
She shouldn’t have assumed her customers would call. It was a rooftop trap, so how would they know when the squirrel was caught? It doesn’t sound intentional to me, so I don’t think prosecution is necessary. I think she ought to just be more cautious in the future.
If you use the right kind of trap that's not a problem.
I grew up in northern Wisconsin and my family owned a resort on a lake. One of our cabins was chosen by a family of squirrels as a prime winter haven. I put rat bait on a small plate and stuck it up in the porch rafters. Next day, no bait left so I set out some more. It took a couple of days to figure out that they were salting it away for winter forage.
Plan "B" was the old fashioned rat-trap, baited with peanut butter. Got them all within a week.

PS It works best if you tie a small loop of string around the trigger paddle before adding the PB. That's to catch the nervous types that just nibble a little. Their teeth catch in the string and trigger the trap.
