Sons from every region of the states went into combat when the call came. The women manned the machine and all civilians rationed resources. Europe should be forever grateful.
I agree with your comments. I think a lot more people do care about this Memorial Weekend than you might suspect. People are busy and don’t always show it, but in their hearts they do spend moments to reflect.
I didn’t use to spend as much time thinking about things like this, but as I got older my life slowed down a bit and I was able to spend more time on it.
That doesn’t mean that I didn’t care about it when I was going 90 miles an hour.
I've visited it. An emotionally powerful experience.
I dream of the day when this SOB rises again to lead his men to right very great wrongs.

Thank you for sharing this link. I grew up in Germany; my dad was stationed there for many tours. He dragged us five kids all over Europe on a shoestring budget and a ten year old station wagon. I remember visiting these sites thirty some years ago. Dad was smart. He knew a picture could paint a thousand words. Seeing these graves and peering over the Berlin wall in the early 70’s forever etched in my mind the desire to be free from tyranny. Thanks, Dad. I miss you. Happy Memorial Day.
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.
The only reason I would go to Europe, if not forced by business, is to visit the US military cemetaries.
For all I care the rest of Europe can rot.
Oops! That should have read May 25th. It's on this coming Monday.
I believe you may be correct in your thoughts. as things go on my faith in the people of our great country have taken a pounding recently, especially since muslim boy hussein was elected. I truly hope that many, many more Americans reflect on this day than I think might. good God, what our brave men women went through defending our country in years past, just incredible.
Thanks for posting.
thank you.

As I was on a tour in 1994 I remember reading one epithet which has remained with me ever since
“To have,
to hold,
and then
to part,
Memories of you,
remain close to our hearts
We will love you always,”
Wife Mary and son James.
That has remained with me ever since and I will never forget it.
Thank you Bobby.223. I hope so too. You take care.

Those are incredible photos. Thank you.
Notice I didn't say Europeans. I said Europe.
I have been to Europe, have had exchange students from Spain live with us, Work with Russians, French, Germans, English, Swedish, Turkish, (Australian, OK so not European but not American either) etc. Associate with many from Africa. We were know as the ‘little UN’ for a while.
-btw- I find absolutely no use for the UN. None.
Don't get me wrong the statement isn't against even one of these people. I have not met an European that I don't like. Some are odd but I appreciate each one of these people personally. I am almost certain that you and I really get along and enjoy each others company.
The problem I have with Europe is, as a ‘country’ (if I can use that term) is not an active ally of the US. They set themselves as a rival. A rival is a step one step closer to becoming an enemy.
Europe is not an individualistic ‘country’. At least in the past the US was. Europe is rotting and dying anyway, demographically speaking. So in a sense I am not saying anything that Europe isn't already practicing. I could make a long list but as a country when has Europe taken a difficult, unpopular stand in the world? Have they against Russian energy? Israel?, Iran? Hell no. They oppose the US, sometimes actively.
European history is replete with colossal failures and I mean colossal. Sure they have produced nice art and have nice scenery but on my list Freedom and the support of Freedom towers over art and mountains.
Does Europe want to be free?
Most of the Europeans I have known look at my desire to do what I want, when I want, without any government interference as somewhat radical. By doing what I want I mean, of course, lawful things.
Don't get me wrong, the US is heading in Europe's direction, and at the rate we have been going we will pass Europe in socialism. Thus my presence on this board. To warn Americans of the dangers of socialism.
If I want to see the pretty scenery of Europe I will buy a nice 2010 calendar. If I want to see nice art I will buy a Art History textbook.
Honest question: Is their a European dominated website similar to FR? If so I would love to visit it and contribute.
“but why should Europe be forever gratefull?”
I am still grateful for those that gave their fortunes and lives to establish this country (USA). I pray that the children of my grandchildren will still be grateful not only for George Washington but also for the lowly private that died of smallpox in Washington’s army.
How long do you think a country should be grateful to those that have died in its defense? When should these men be forgotten?
The US should not be given ‘special’ treatment. I appreciate all men that die in the cause of freedom. Are there cemetaries dedicated to the Mexican’s that died in WW1 and WW2? If so I would revere those also. If there are no cemetaries dedicated to members of other countries maybe that is because those countries do not appreciate death in the cause of Freedom like Americans do.
This attitude of yours of minimizing the fight for freedom like yours that is killing Europe. (and the cause of freedom)
It is obvious that Europe as a ‘country’ doesn’t appreciate those soldies that died in her defense.
Have you no sense of history?
People from a foreign country died for you.
They gave their lives for you.
Americans believe in the cause of freedom that evan when the freedom of other countries is in danger we will send our mothers sons to die for it.
Europe doesn’t believe in the cause of freedom to even appreciate those deaths, forget about fighting for their own freedom, and we won’t even talk about Europe fighting for the freedoms of others.
Fine, don’t appreciate, revere or honor their sacrifice but at least Europe is still protected by the USA.
So for all I care, Europe can rot.
