Orangutans cannibalise own babies
BBC ^ | May 21, 2009 | Matt Walker

Posted on 05/21/2009 3:37:21 PM PDT by Prodigal Son

Two female orangutans have been seen cannibalising the bodies of their recently deceased babies.

Such behaviour has never before been recorded in any great ape species.

The two incidences occurred just one month apart in the same region of forest in Indonesia.

The conservationist who witnessed both incidences suspects they were examples of aberrant behaviour, triggered by stressful living conditions suffered by both mothers.

Humans aside, chimpanzees were the only great apes known to engage in cannabilism, the eating of members of the same species. The behaviour had also been inferred but not seen in gorillas, after the remains of infants were found in the faeces of two adults.

But until now, no ape has been recorded eating its own offspring.

"Cannibalism has been documented in chimpanzees and reported in gorillas. Never before has any ape species been seen treating its own offspring as a consumable resource," says David Dellatore of Oxford Brookes University, in Oxford, UK.

Since many believe humans evolved from monkeys or apes would it be okay with evolutionists if humans engaged in cannibalism as distant relatives do today?

Actually cannibalism has long been known in chimpanzees.

Wow, sounds about like Democrats. Maybe they were actually alive after attempted abortions.

Hey Obama, what’s your ruling on this one...

Also on the BBC:

Dolphins Seen Trying to Kill Calf

Adult tucuxi dolphins have been seen trying to kill a newborn calf of their own species.

It is the first record of these dolphins attempting infanticide.

Although common in many mammal species, infanticide is rarely recorded among cetaceans, the group of animals that includes whales and dolphins.

Until now, the behaviour has only been reported twice in bottlenose dolphins; but the new episode suggests it may be more widespread than was thought.

We kill them but we don’t eat them. We use their body parts in a cannibalistic pursuit of eternal youth. I thought evolution was supposed to be progressive, not regressive.

Me: Since evolutionists believe we evolved from apes would it be okay... if humans engaged in cannibalism?

You: Fetal. Stem. Cell. Therapy.

Me: Oh, so it's okay to use little fertilized eggs that are human beings for self serving purposes that show NO promise. Well, eventually even the densest will see that ADULT STEM CELLS continuously offer results that benefit human beings. It sure beats cannibalism and mutilating the unborn. Then again, I'm not an evolutionist. I’m not that naive to believe in evolution.

I thought evolution was supposed to be progressive, not regressive.

On that, you would be wrong. Evolution takes no predefined direction, except that it takes the path of the best route to survival, vindicated purely by the size of the surviving population, given the circumstances.

If circumstances favor dumb people, you will have more of them.

“We kill them but we don’t eat them. We use their body parts in a cannibalistic pursuit of eternal youth. I thought evolution was supposed to be progressive, not regressive.”

Yes, “eternal youth” at any cost.

In a strange way, fetal stem cell research is ingesting little human beings. You’re not supposed to think about it like that though. Evolution isn’t progressive. Evolution is all about devaluing human life.
