Kris Allen wins
May 20, 2009 | vanity

Does anyone else think Kris Allen, who was very good won American Idol over Adam Lambert who was great because Red Staters siad "No!" to Lmabert for reasons other than talent? Lambert is the best ever on the show, but I think he was denied because Red State America has had "enough." I hope I'm wrong, just thinking out loud.

I thought the young red headed girl had the most pure talent.

Given that the viewers appeared to be mostly young teen girls she really had no chance.

As we saw from Britain’s Got Talent, sometimes talent trumps appearance.

At first I couldn’t take to Adam but after a few shows it was clear he had both talent and that star quality.

Yes, Kris has talent but like Simon said, he sounds like any other group of guys in their bedroom. Or garage.

I have already pre ordered Adam’s CD.

I am much too old to have even been aware of KISS but I must say they had that something. Is it called edge? I am totally uninformed about the music of the past twenty years.

Loved Clay, loved Taylor, couldn’t stand Bice, didn’t get Fantasia at all. Think Carrie Underwood has grown into her stardom. Big time.

FWIW

For the life of me, I can’t imagine sitting through a whole concert of Adam Lambert, or listening to a whole CD of his. Maybe if I was working at Guantanamo, I might play it as a tool of the trade. And I like Axel Rose, Robert Plant, and Steven Tyler...a lot.

Back in the 70s, rock was constantly breaking new ground, by now, it’s all been done before.

Well, the 70's- early 80's were my era for rock, but I have to admit that most of the groundbreaking occured in the 60's: so many different genres (rockabilly, surf, orchestral, brass, folk, psychodelic, etc.), and every year brought a different predominant sound.

The 70's were more of an expansion, with better musicianship. New Wave of the early 80's was a throw-back to late-50/early 60's but with synthesizers, and the mid-80's hair bands were just clown parodies of 70's arena rock.

The reason rap gained popularity is that rock had played out almost all of its innovation by that time. My kid is a music comp major on scholarship at a major university, and plays virtually nothing written after 1987. For that reason he's starting a Police cover band (who were very innovative in their own way). Like Sting he's also an honors academic scholar, so maybe he'll create something new and worth listening to.

I see, the biased liberal media says that not just Christians but “Red State Christians” took time out of their lives to be mean and vote against a gay guy. Riiiight.

Yes, KISS has edge and long tongues.I just can’t take to semi-demonic performers. When folks saw Adam with KISS they may have been glad they voted for Kris,IMO.He is more like the boy next door but then I am from a very different generation.

With the way the culture is today, it will be a part of its death.

And we'll be responsible because we concede an important part of American life to the liberals. Just like we seem to concede the education sector (from K12 to grad school). We need more conservatives to be in those areas, but that cannot happen if we stay away from them.

Yeah, ok, maybe Adam could be in Queen. But if so, that’s not Adam’s songs, or Adam’s radio format, but Queen’s songs, and Queen’s radio format. If there was a radio format called “show tunes”, Adam would be #1 there. I thought he was pretty good at taking hit songs and making them sound like show tunes. He was better at his show tunes than Kris was at his acoustic singer-songwriter thing. But people like acoustic singer-songwriters. Show tunes, not so much.

Axl, Plant, Tyler were all singing rock. Adam Lambert was singing show tunes. His character in the American Idol “play” was “rocker”. It took me a while to figure it out, and now that I have, it’s a complete embarassment that AI judges called him a rocker or a rock god or whatever they called him.

Next time please use your brains before spoiling anything for us here in the West Coast.

Someone from the west coast complaining about the rest of the country spoiling something for them. That's rich.

So why did you click on it?

Because we thought it was about somebody worthwhile, winning something of value. I hope that answers your prying curiosity.

Kris Allen was the 4th best singer on the show, at best, and I am being kind.

Agree. A Nathan Lane-esque retrospective on Led Zeppelin.
