WASHINGTON – Sen. Robert C. Byrd, 91 and the longest-serving senator in history, was hospitalized last Friday with a temperature spike evidently caused by a minor infection, his office announced Monday.
Byrd, a West Virginia Democrat, "is being treated with antibiotics, responding well and is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days," the office said in a statement.
Byrd has been in Congress since 1952 and was first elected to the Senate six years later.

GW did the exact same thing when the frail Saudi monarch visited the ranch...held on to his hand while they walked up a path to the house.

When I look at that picture I do not see anything political. The look on Bryd’s face reminds me of the time I realized my grandmother had reached that point in her life. It strikes a very emotional note for me.
I am sorry for your grandmother & my sincere sympathies. However when I see THIS picture, I see a RINO, CINO, pandering, appeasing, forever capitulating GW Bush assisting an old, senile, former KKK, black hating racist, who has systematically destroyed & dimished the USA, and should be prosecuted for treason against the USA. Byrd & his charade of christianity & his selective hauling out of his pocket constitution is sickening. Among dozens or hundreds of other inconsistencies, he can find abortion rights somehow in the constitution, but can’t find rights to defend the life of the unborn. And GW Bush forever will play nicey with the enemies of the USA while scornfully deriding conservatives & Christians who continually had to beg & please with Bush to do the right things. Bush is clueless and this picture is another example of it.
