Everyone is piling on Sarah Palin, even though she will never be president of the United States.
The Alaska governor is everyone's favorite foil, from the left-wing Huffington Post to the ever-posturing Mitt Romney. John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee who cynically chose her as his running mate, now snubs her with relish.
They all act like she has a real chance to win the White House, when they all know the truth. When it comes to being taken seriously by the general electorate as a potential president, it's as over for her as it was for Dan Quayle.
Quayle was doomed even after he served as vice president. He was the heartbeat away from the first President Bush, but could never overcome the perception that he lacked gravitas.
Palin only ran for vice president; she never made it from Wasilla to Washington. And her problem is bigger than Quayle's, because it extends to her family.
From the moment Palin appeared on the national scene as a surprise pick for vice president, her family attracted critical attention. Palin had to fight off Internet-spawned rumors that her youngest child, Trig, who was born with Down syndrome, was really her daughter's. Then came the real news. Bristol Palin, her 17-year-old daughter, was unwed and pregnant, despite her mother's abstinence-only platform.
Palin weathered those headlines and others about her snowmobiling husband, Todd. As the campaign moved forward, she was undercut more by her own performance in a series of nationally televised interviews.
She was a major turnoff to the very voters she was supposed to attract Hillary Rodham Clinton's female supporters.
Palin is still extremely popular with the hard-core conservative base and was recently named to the National Council for a New America, a group aimed at rebranding the GOP. Palin made Time magazine's list of influential people, causing Romney to crack: "But was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people?"
Romney is smarter and more accomplished than Palin, and just as good-looking. But Palin has something he lacks: a core set of unwavering conservative principles. It gives her an early advantage with Republican primary voters.
Palin faces an ongoing family soap opera that continues to undercut her political message. Bristol Palin broke up with Levi Johnston, the father of their child.
The line Palin walks as a mother of five and new grandmother continues to trip her up as a presidential candidate.
That makes her an easy target for Democrats and Republicans, who enjoy running against her.

Until the GOP denies Independents a vote in our primaries, it won’t matter how involved we conservatives get, we’ll still end up with a POS RINO.
Carter faces an ongoing family soap opera that continues to undercut his political message. His brother Billy has a propensity for unzipping and relieving himself without regard to his surroundings.
Clinton faces an ongoing family soap opera that continues to undercut his political message. His brother Roger has been convicted of possession of cocaine, dealing cocaine and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Obama faces an ongoing family soap opera that continues to undercut his political message. His father Barack Hussein Obama Sr. was an alcoholic, wife-abusing bigamist. When he married Barack Junior's mother he already had a wife and children in Kenya. At the time Barack Jr. was conceived his mother, Ann Dunham, and Barack senior were not yet married.
Gov. Palin last year had a baby with Downs Syndrome,
Her oldest son and his unit left for the War in Iraq, Her oldest dau. had an unexpected pregnancy, and Gov. Palin
was nominated to run as Vice Pres.
In the meantime the Left Wing media and Left Wing Pols, bashed her , she was a threat as a Conservative Republican.
Gov. Palin Gave here acceptance speech at the convention
without a teleprompter as it was broke.
Gov. Palin drew huge crowds all over and energized them
and stayed cool and focused while being bashed by the Left.
I totally agree with you.
If she runs, I will campaign for her, raise money for her, walk over hot coals to do whatever it takes to help her get elected. They fear her because she has a chance of WINNING..and they KNOW it. She doesn’t need the GOP establishment to help her win, screw them. They don’t give a damn about us or what we believe. The GOP wants to become the Democrat Lite, they think if they become more Democrat they will have a better shot of winning...WRONG, and as long as they continue to think that way they don’t have a shot
Exactly. I was a Thompson supporter, and watched Romney’s tactics. But IMHO Romney, his staff, or anyone knows what to do about Palin. She’s the people’s choice, and the “people” see thru Romney on first glance.
The reason you fear Sarah is that you fear women of principle and character.
Besides, aren't you on unemployment yet as a writer for a cellulose-based outlet?
Cheers!
Sarah didn’t make mistakes. Its the media who made scandals out of everything while ignoring all the mistakes of obama’s. Remmber the bridge to nowhere that Sarah killed? The media lied about what happened there. Remember the wardrobe? The media ignored Obama’s wardrobe cost. Remember the interviews? Media ignored all the gaffs made by obama and biden
Or a red winged black bird either.
Cheers!
Some of the Mitt folks along with Sanford are the
ones to bash Gov. Palin.
...Remember the Gibson interview where he lied to Palin about what she said at a church, by using an edited clip, telling her its a full quote
They can’t find anything negative about Sarah so they lie about them
OK. Walk over coals.
You know, the far left and the far right both want Palin to be the GOP nominee, for different reasons, and both will be working for that purpose. It will make for some interesting FReeper bedfellows.
RHINO and Washington insider who will never get my vote!
The overall truth was and is, that many single moms are often hard put to enjoy, what should have been their right. Money does not grow on trees. This is the time to pick and choose, not be stuck with responsibilities without a partner.
As for Governor Palin let the MSM sneer. I take no pleasure in the plight of Nancy Pelosi to be truthful, but guess who is the most comfortable at this time.

Everybody send Joan an email.
I just told her SHE would never be a VP nominee.
I laughed at that line. I don’t consider Romney smarter or more accomplished. I ran into a Romney supporter tonight as a matter of fact. Some people are all about triangulation.
I remember the same thing said about Ronald Reagan.
Yes they are inept in spending our money and far to good a thieving it. I don’t want someone who will manage it. I want someone like Palin would will turn the clock back on government as well as cutting waste and spending.
