Obama U-turn on abuse photos

US President Barack Obama has changed his mind and will now attempt to block the publication of photographs showing the abuse of prisoners by US soldiers.

The US government had previously said it would not fight a court ruling ordering the release of the pictures.

Mr Obama now believes the release of the photos would make the job of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan more difficult, White House officials said.

The pictures were due to be released by 28 May, according to the court ruling.

The latest meme being floated for public consumption is that Bush broke the law because he failed to disclose the use of waterboarding to Democrats until six months after it was first deployed on Abu Zubaydah in Aug of 2002. Even if that doesn't fly, the Dems...at least the ones at DU...indicate that they are more than willing to throw Pelosi...and anyone else who gets in their way...under the bus to get Bush and Cheney.

BINGO. They’ll go through the motions of filing briefs and stalling for a few months, then the court will come back and say “I said, release those pictures,” and Obama will sigh and say, “well, the court told us to, we have no choice” and release the photos. The moonbats will be happy, and Obama can say to the rest of the country, “hey, I tried, but we have to respect the rule of law.”

He gets it both ways, he can blame it on a faceless judge and the ACLU, both of whom will never face any penalty for their treason, and he looks like a statesman.

I just took a quick peek over at the HuffHo, and the lemming pinko-commie-lib-dems are engorged with the "wisdom" of their sAVIOR.

However the most telling comments posted over there is that they feel releasing these pictures would not serve any purpose at this point.

They are of course dead on, since the purpose of releasing the Abu Grab pics was to undermine President Bush.

“If it’s true that they’re reversing position, we find that wholly unacceptable,” ACLU attorney Jameel Jaffer told POLITICO. “It’s inconsistent with the commitment they’ve made to the court and its inconsistent with the promise of transparency that they’ve repeated many times both before the election and since.”

Jaffer said the ACLU had not been officially informed of the government’s change in stance, which he earlier called an effort to “renege” on the administration’s prior promise.

I would think this mean the pictures of pretty damn bad.

The British papers have contained allegations of sliced open genitals, forced sodomy in front of female family members and violent forced enemas. If there are pictures of any of that then then it would absolutely cause backlash.

On the other hand, how do you also not prosecute somebody if there are pictures that are so bad we can’t release them?
