US President Barack Obama has changed his mind and will now attempt to block the publication of photographs showing the abuse of prisoners by US soldiers.
The US government had previously said it would not fight a court ruling ordering the release of the pictures.
Mr Obama now believes the release of the photos would make the job of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan more difficult, White House officials said.
The pictures were due to be released by 28 May, according to the court ruling.

Pelosi told him to drop it. She’s on the verge of having to be asked. “What does she knew and when did she knew it.” Which is a line of questioning only reserved to Conservatives.
It’s the media that will do the real u-turn. Obama was so right to release these, it made us stronger, it was moral, blah blah blah.
Now they will say it made perfect sense that he changed his mind.
So long as a dem does it the decision doesn’t matter. All that matters is saluting.

Contrast that to the right who said that no the photo’s should not be given out or made public and even though now bozo said the same thing we do not go against it and say the opposite.
Yet again the right shows class, the left show their intolerance, rage, bitterness, anger and no brains
They are acting like Obama is suddenly a Conservative. Little do they realize that Obama's not an enemy of just those who didn't vote for him, but ALL Americans.
Perhaps we should invite them to a Tea Party...
My theory is that the pictures aren’t that bad. More pointing and underwear on the head. So, releasing the photos would make Dems look like drama queens when most Americans see the pictures and say “Hey, I do that to my little brother all the time!”
Self preservation precisely. It's not about what's right, but what serves them best. Period. Always.
Zer0 had one of his minions run the photos down to his masters at the Saudi embassy for vetting, and they said “Nothing much wrong with these photos Bro, but we don’t want our lunatic half-insane subjects rioting in the streets for a week and so let’s just not do this. OK?”
And so it is not done.
Obama was taking so much heat over trying to release these (and for releasing the CIA memos) that his advisers told him not to release the pictures to preserve his political capital.
You’re giving O way too much credit. It isn’t like he went to bed hating America and woke up a patriot and statesman. Someone simply convinced him that this is one case where he can’t throw Bush under the bus, without getting run over himself.
“O” who promised to be able to reach out to our allies and get them to actually help in Afghanistan and take GTMO detainees, is being told by by those allies to take a hike. Releasing these photos would cause even more of our allies to desert us like rats leaving a sinking ship.
He doesn’t have to release them. The damage has already been done. He has put a black mark on our military, and by ‘changing’ his mind makes himself appear ‘generous’ and ‘helpful’, instead of the divider and troublemaker that he really is.

Don’t worry , the Marxist has something in mind. His “crew” is very slick indeed. Someone else on here suggested he’s playing good cop, bad cop. Might be . Could also be that the CIA is REAL pissed and getting in his face. I’m sure he has thigs to hide from the CIA. Believe me , he would enjoy putting those pictures on the internet. He’s a racist, American hating , military hating bastard. He’s just biding his time on this one. No change of heart here just change of strategy.

This isn’t a momentary lapse of insanity from 0bama. It’s political. He has figured out that his zeal to release the photos exposes his deep desire to damage America and harm our troops.
This doesn’t mean the photos won’t be released, but now he has cover as he falsely claims that he didn’t want to do it. He figures he’s getting the best of both worlds.
