THE POPE STANDS UP (and walks out on Palestinian leader Sheikh Taysir al-Tamimi)
NY Post ^ | May 12, 2009

In an action that spoke far louder than words, Pope Benedict yesterday walked out of an interfaith meeting in Jerusalem after the chief Islamic judge of the Palestinian Authority launched into an anti-Israeli diatribe.

The pontiff, on his first day in Jerusalem, did not realize at first that Sheikh Taysir al-Tamimi, speaking in Arabic, was condemning the "crimes of the Jewish state" and accusing Israel of having "slaughtered women, children and senior citizens."

But as soon as he was told the nature of the sheikh's tirade, he stood and left the meeting, which took place at Notre Dame church, before it had concluded.

It's not as if the organizers shouldn't have seen this coming: Back in 2000, Tamimi did the same thing during a visit by the late Pope John Paul II.

A spokesman for the Holy See later condemned the remarks, saying that

Despite Jean Cauvin’s scribblings, I prefer to pray to the God of Holy Scripture, not Cauvin’s dark and rather sadisitic little pocket deity.

That should be:

“It is quite obvious that they are.

Oh, and the Church founded by Christ to settle such things for us tells us so.”

And how does the church know that Mary and the departed saints are saved and in heaven?

Either you are wrong or MarkBsnr is wrong since he states that knowing we will meet someone in heaven “is not Biblical, not found in Scripture, nor was it believed by early Christians. You cannot know your salvation; and you sure cannot know anyone else’s.”

Your assumption is that I would repent my 'sin' of using IVF, which I will NEVER do. Therefore, I would NEVER be welcome in the Catholic Church. I've done my 'homework' on the subject, believe me. :-)

Again, you are the wrong about this. Talking to you is a bit like talking to a pull-string doll, but I apreciate the fact that you are generally civil. The Catholic Church welcomes all those it considers to be sinners, in the hope that they will repent. The Catholic way has always been to lead by example. From within and without. My brother and mys sister-in-law are like you, convinced that the outcome of two healthy boys outweighs the other human lives created and destroyed. And the two that remain frozen somewhere. They go to church. Nobody points fingers at them. Perhaps your "research" wasn't as thorough as you think it was.

In the end, all sins are between you and God as far as Catholicism is concerned.

Much of the rest of your post you have correct, sir.

And I agree with everything you said, so I guess we have no quarrel sir.

I was responding to the stupid idea that the Catholic Church rejects sinners. It was not yours.

Yes, you can know your salvation. Too bad Catholics don’t believe that. Another false teaching.

LOL. Since you've used that term to describe me before, I can only assume you're talking about me again.

What term is that? "Someone?"

FYI, I never pinged the Moderators.

Believe it or not, I actuall WAS thinking of someone else. Now that you've denied it, I just changend my mind. However, since you have no way of proving who it was, we'll just have to leave it open: You deny it, I don't believe you.

Now: I was really hoping to never hear from you again. That's why I went out of my way to avoid posting to you. But since you're like a canker sore who keeps coming back, here we are. I might as well send you to this thread, from an article I found on page 3 of the NY Post last weekend. It may enlighten you.

Please try to post to me only when you have a point to make. And don't quit your day job. If you want to exlude me when you have laughs with your loser friends, you have my blessing.

No, you have not said that to me many times over the years. As far as I can recall, this is the first time we’ve ever had anything to do with each other. When I responded to this post, I actually complimented the Pope for walking out. Then we find that that’s not exactly what happened. You didn’t like it when people called you on that. It was only because the title was what made people think he had walked out on Tamimi. You have gone on the defensive to several of us whe didn’t agree with the title and what really happened, and you called us a variety of nasty names. No one called you names as badly as the ones you called us.

Obviously I have a better memory than you. We have crossed passed several times over the years. I believe I even have an old FReepmail from you in my inbox from several years ago. On this thread, I never took issue with anybody who said the title was wrong. I invite you to go back and take a look at a civil discussion I had with pillut48 about exactly that. That was 1000 posts or so ago. I only took issue with another poster who suggested that the Pope didn't get up because he is anti-semetic. Again, that was over 1000 posts ago. Otherwise, I barely mentioned the article at all. So when you say I "took issue" with something, you are either confused or lying (again). Your version of the events did not happen. I didn't call people any particularly nasty name, though I did call thier logic stupid, or their behavior crazy. Several people, inculding you, said the same sorts of things back to me. You also called me a child and a few others. One one on a crusade to lable me an anti-semite and a Holocaust denier. I honestly think I'd rather be called "gay" than a Holocaust dentier. But then, they called me that too. I just didn't bother complaining about it. Then you tried the old hit-and-run a few times, insulting me and telling me not to respond in the same thread, thinking the moderators would step in (didn't you know that they are reading each and every one of my posts?). In any case, its not a contest. After this thread, I hope I never run into you again. That would be awesome. But I find you again mistakenly posting lies about the Catholic faith, or actively trying to discredit my church, I promise to be just as nasty as I can be, if it helps me get my point across. That seems to be the only way to get your attention.

Oh, you certainly can be nasty. The names you call people here go beyond the pale. I am happy not to have anything more to do with you. And I do not think you’re a holocaust denier. I’ve never said that.

The names you call people here go beyond the pale.

I think perhaps the problem here is that you weren't really understanding the gist of the conversation. Why don't you give me an example of something "beyond the pale" that I said, and I'll put it into context for you. Be sure to include the post number. And don't you dare run away. You made an accusation, now you have to back it up. If it makes you feel any better, I can't remember half of what I wrote on this thread, but I feel that I was fairly tame by my standards. I don't regret anything I wrote, you feel like I used offensive language and verbally assualted somebody. Perhaps there is a middle ground. I'll be waiting.

BTW, you didn’t mention the my correction: I never took issue with the title of the thread as you suggested. The apropriate Christian thing now would be for you to apologize for bearing false witness against me. Do you have a problem with that, or were you planning to just ignore another one of your lies that somebody caught you engaged in?

The title is misleading. I didn’t say YOU took issue with it, WE did. I haven’t lied. I don’t owe you an apology for anything I’ve said on this thread.

Lol. It's always fun to see them contradicting each other. Basically they don't know what they believe, and they sure don't know Scripture.
