SOUTH BEND, Ind., May 9 /
Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Alan Keyes and 20 peaceful pro-lifers were arrested yesterday after they walked onto Notre Dame's campus praying the rosary and pushing baby strollers carrying baby dolls covered in "stage blood" to protest the invitation of Notre Dame to President Obama to deliver the commencement address at this year's graduation.
Dr. Keyes will be leading peaceful witnesses again on campus this coming Tuesday and Friday -- and is calling on others to join him.
Dr. Keyes said upon being released from jail, "I went on campus to bear witness to the truth that the invitation by the University of Notre Dame to Barack Obama is a travesty and abomination against the truth that is characteristic to our Catholic and Christian faith. Obama's actions deserve condemnation, not honor.
"I am issuing a call to everyone of like mind that we must come together now to bear witness to the world, to send a message to destroy this scandal and spread the truth of the Christians' dedication to life.
"I am going back on campus to prayerfully bear witness. Come, join me, let us trespass together so that in our trespasses we might find ourselves fully in obedience to the will of God."
Dr. Keyes released a statement before his arrest explaining why he was willing to be arrested, and can be read at
www.StopObamaNotreDame.com.
Last Thursday, pro-lifers began to arrive from around the country to push the strollers with Dr. Keyes, and face the ire of Notre Dame officials, as well as arrest. Most of those risking arrest are from Notre Dame; but pro-life advocates from Washington D.C., Michigan, Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico and Ohio have also arrived.
"Dr. Keyes presence has catapulted this battle to a new level. If we have 100 or more people going to jail over the next week protesting this blatant evil, it may derail Obama's speech, and it will be a message that reaches America, the Vatican, and the world. This is a critical moment to wake people up!
"We are asking our pro-life friends to join us in jail, or at least to come and stand with us in the streets. Please join us for prayerful witness events on campus this coming Tuesday and Friday."

Cease with your drama.
Now, tell me, how many abortions were caused, or prevented, by Obama being "honored"? I don't care if ND replaced 'Touchdown Jesus with Touchdown Obama', that would not effect, either way, the blight of abortion.
Cop on for Christ's sake.

Many leaders in the Catholic Church have openly stated that what Fr. Jenkins is doing is a grievous scandal and wrong.
FYI, those under Jenkins’ authority have prevented Dr. Keyes from attending Mass at the Notre Dame chapel tomorrow morning.
Jenkins is exercising his power using the civil authority, but he stands on very shaky ground when it comes to Canon Law.

frowned upon by sincere, devout Catholics, as well as the Vatican This is the second time now in two days that you have claimed to speak for Catholics and for the Vatican.
Prove it.

Clinton wasn’t ever invited to be commencement speaker at Notre Dame either.

Exactly. Most people won’t vote for the prophet Jeremiah, even if what he is saying is true. Fire and brimstone just isn’t a winning message these days.

Google “Alan Keyes Senate 2004.”
The original Republican running for the Senate seat was Jack Ryan, who Obama “cleared the board” with by getting his divorce records unsealed. He had to drop out. The Illinois GOP, led by some RINO, was absolutely at a loss what to do, and eventually they tried carpetbagging with Alan Keyes.

The original Republican running for the Senate seat was Jack Ryan, who Obama cleared the board with by getting his divorce records unsealed. And if my memory is serving me correctly, isn't that how Obama won the primary too? Wasn't he behind until right before the primary election date?

I admire Dr. Alan Keyes.
It's scary to see a person peacefully protesting AGAINST the heinous premeditated murder of an INFANT be ARRESTED.

ND has a tradition of inviting the sitting POTUS to address the grads.Incorrect.
Clinton spoke there,
Incorrect.
so did Reagan.
You finally got something right.

Boy I would love to watch "The One" debate Alan just once, any subject, any time, any place! Like taking a sledge hammer to a piss ant.
To: Chesterbelloc
IIRC, yeah, he won the primary by doing the same thing to his Rat opponent. Exact same tactic, unseal the divorce records. I remember Rush talking about it: Obama didn’t win elections on merit, he won elections by sliming the other guy. Chicago thug.

It is time to take to the streets and protest this, and many other issues.
I guess we are going to find out where the priorities of religious Americans lie.

I very much agree with you about the carnival-like tactics of Randal Terry and now, unfortunatley Alan Keyes, though I don't know that the vatican has taken a stand on their tactics.
However, I disagree as strongly as I agree with you above, that Obama or Clinton should speak at Catholic institutions. When they do so it signals tacit approval of their views, which are the antithesis of almost everything the Catholic Church preaches, to the rest of the world. Such people should be opposed by the church at every turn, not given a platform by Catholic church members on which to speak.

jla, didn't say the Catholic church opposes demonstrations against abortion. He said they oppose carnival-like tactics. As much as I wish that were true, I have never seen anything in writing that supports jla's contention.
Nine years ago, we protested Clinton when he came to speak at Catholic La Salle University, here in Philly. First we made phone calls to the university but to no avail. Several people who demonstrated with us and made the calls, still post on this board. We stood there with signs like normal people.
That's how Alan and company should be doing this and they should have gone through the proper channels and planned it so there were a few hundred people with them. And yes, since some in the media have been publicizing this controversy, such a protest would have been reported and we would be talking about it.
Thus, there is absolutely no need for all the hysterics and drama on the part of Terry and Keyes, or their calling for the invitation of others to also get arrested and join them in jail. It's ridiculous and all for the headlines. So sad.
