Alan Keyes among 21 arrested at Notre Dame May 8, 2009 1:29 PM Former Illinois U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes and 20 other protesters were arrested this morning when they refused to leave the Notre Dame campus during a protest of President Obama's upcoming commencement address there, a university spokesman said.

In the 1950's the laws on many college campuses made it a crime for black people to register for class. To our shame many conservatives did not take part in the civil rights movement to end this evil. In the 1930's in Germany the law required citizens to inform the police if they knew of a Jew who wasn't in a concentration camp. Would you have gone along with this evil, or are their higher goals than obeying the law?
Would you say that to Jill Stanek?
IMO this is probably the greatest speech of this century (thus far made). It is a video of Alan Keyes speaking to a Tea Party in Pittsburgh last month.

That's not my argument, if someone (let's take Keyes, he's a good example) breaks the law, he should suffer the legal consequences. Keyes went to jail. They let him out, and now he will trespass on ND property against, and presumably be arrested and go to jail again. At some point he will be in front of a judge.
That's how civil disobedience protests work. Do the crime, do the time.
The earlier post with the reasons, Lefties given a pass, are that they don't do the time.
THUS if Lefties do this kind of stuff, I, and others, complain loudly and long about them. Which is what you originally objected too.
The students should chant for him to produce his birth certificate during the speech!!
I stand corrected about how long Keyes is in jail. I think he is in for the weekend. He is preaching (so they say) in jail.
He is a gifted orator. I’ll bet he is well recieved by even those who disagree with him.
Big events may or may not get big media coverage, which may or may not reflect accurately the moral imperatives related to the event.
But big events are merely an assembly of warm bodies. Hearts and minds are impacted one at a time.
“Cowardice asks the question, ‘Is it safe?’ Expediency asks the question, ‘Is it politic?’ Vanity asks the question, ‘Is it popular?’ But, conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’ And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one’s conscience tells one that it is right.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people. — Martin Luther King Jr.
Keyes has always been about getting publicity. When told to stay off the grass — stay off the grass.
If this had been a group that doesn’t grandstand, I would give them the benefit of the doubt but Keyes and Terry go out of their way to get face time. They intentionally do things they know will get them in the news and take advantage of situations.
Any Keyes/Terry supporting not seeing that needs a new pair of glasses.
By all means feel free...I don’t know what the original source is but whenever the subject comes up, I’m reminded of that poster.
I fully agree with you on that one, Jenny.
I'm sure you remember this. Do you want to be associated with them?
I’m sorry, but I think that kind of stuff isn’t useful at all. It just turns people off, rather than changing hearts and minds.
I used to think this way too, and tend to waffle a bit, still. I think it’s nice to see the lefties get the same treatment thrown back at them for a change.
It is what worked for code pink and think how screwed up they are.
This type of tactic is taken right from their own playbook and it seems to work pretty well.
We need to do more because our old tactics got us pushed right into a fascist regime.
Why is the baby carriages with blood “non-helpful.” That is showing disgust with Notre Dame’s Administration for inviting an abortion advocate, Obama, to speak at a Catholic college. Catholic doctrine says that doing abortions is breaking God’s law, “Thou shall not kill.” Good for Alan Keyes. He knows we are not meant to live in this world forever but we are meant to live forever with God. Those who cannot or will not obey God’s law will never make it to eternal bliss with Him. Breaking God’s law is not-helpful.
“Leave that sort of thing to the Code Pink harpies.”
If you notice, the modus operandi is the same. For the same reason: The stunt has the tactical utility of keeing the story in the news. Does it change minds? Hmmmmm, doubt it.
Me, too.
Can you imagine if they arrested a pro-choice or pro-homosexual marriage democrat politician?
Wouldn't happen.
“I think, though, that the college should be ashamed about trying to restrict a peaceful protest. It is civil disobedience...and I respect the rule of law...but the way things are going, Im wondering how long its going to be before the tea party protests are somehow trespassing.”
You are right.
I recall, back in the days at college, when leftists would construct shantytowns to protest south Africa. They effectively were squatters on campus property - but were never arrested and carted off. There is probably a double-standard at play here.
Arrest Obama; keep Keyes.
