Obama has just made the situation in CA more dire. He has threatened to withhold the bailout money if CA don't return the pay cut to SEIU contract workers by August. US Threatens to rescind Stimulus Money over Wage Cuts

Presidential Thuggery.

Obama has turnned the bully pulpit into a bully club.

Why doesn’t Obama just FORCE an INVOLUNTARY Chapter 9 Bankruptcy and then he can have the bankruptcy court order them around. Oh wait, that gets away from Obama’s ability to be a street thug.

O is threatening to pull stimulus money from CA if the SEIU don’t get their wages restored. Wages were cut in the last budget battle. Pretty easy to see who comes first doesn’t it...

Lets just cut them off and push them out to sea. They act like they are better that the rest of us anyway so lets see how well they handle things on their own!

Do you know that the founder of Free Republic lives in California?

Do you know California is the #1 state for donations to Free Republic?

A federal court in CA has already ruled that a town or city can void union contracts if it does not have the money to pay them. So, the this precedent should apply to the whole state of California, as well.

Bankruptcy may be the only thing that can save California from themselves.

Obama is threatening to rescind stimulus money, that might not be a bad thing. It would spread like wildfire across the country. Obama has finally over stepped. This might be a good thing.

Chapter 9 bankruptcy may be the only thing that can protect California from the thuggery of this white house.

“The state voted overwhelmingly for Obambah. Let him save them. Federal bailout number %$#!?*& coming up.”

That is almost certainly part of O’s grand scheme.

And he will do so with tax monies he takes from folks who thought they were smart to leave CA (as i did).

But don’t worry, he will also take money from folks like you in Ohio to pay for the socialists takeover in CA.

The title of this article is like saying “Idi Amin could be dead by July”. He’s already dead - CA is already broke. And Idi is more likely to come back to life than CA’s economy.

I have very little doubt that Obombah will propose a federal bailout for CA, and it will come from everyone else. That's what he does. That's all he does. You can't stop him. He'll wade through you, reach down her throat and pull her...oops, sorry, got caught up in the moment.

The Stimulus money is is an important leverage point the Obama Administration is using to enlarge federal powers.

In a demonstration of the “spending power,” the federal government has indicated that it will hold back $6.1 billion in stimulus funds to California if the legislature does not rescind a cut they made in State contributions toward the wages of In Home Support Services (IHSS) workers. (These are workers who provide domestic and non-medical services to the elderly and disabled in their homes.)

Both the federal and the State law act directly upon individuals. Federal law does not act upon the States, and is specifically precluded from doing so under the doctrine of “dual sovereignty.” Provisions of various federal laws may not be applied in such a manner so as to: (1) Coerce or force any State into an agreement to implement a federal program or law; (2) Devise any State program or provisions thereof in compliance with a federal law or subject to the approval of a federal agency; or (3) Command State law enforcement, or other State officers to enforce a federal law or federal agency directives. Where there is a real conflict between legitimate federal and State law, federal law pre-empts the State law.

The State may not voluntarily agree to an enlargement of federal jurisdiction into its jurisdictional sphere when such is not authorized by a legitimate enumerated federal power. [New York v. United States, 120 L. Ed. 2d 120 (1992.)] However, under what has been termed “cooperative federalism,” it may be allowed to enact a State law to minimum federal standards in lieu of legitimate federal regulation that would otherwise preempt State law. The State may also accept a federal grant conditional upon compliance with provisions designed to advance a federal interest or program. [South Dakota v. Dole, 483 U.S. 203 (1987); New York v. United States 505 US 144 (1992).] This is how the federal Stimulus program under current State budgetary challenges around the nation can enlarge federal control.

California is too big to fail?

How about California is too big NOT to fail.

Perhaps the eastern and northern parts should start secession movement in order to become their own states.

“Calif. is the blueprint for Obama’s plans for the nation...Calif is our furture.”

I responded before reading your post, and you said it succinctly.

There was abundant evidence even prior to the election.

It is difficult for me to understand how “our” politicians could have ignored their oaths of office and sat on their hands during the Jan 8 Joint Session of Congress.
That session was convened for the sole purpose of challenging O’s apparent lack of qualification or accepting the votes.
Notwithstanding the substantial national outcry over the matter, not a single politician had the courage to raise the issue of O’s failure to demonstrate he was a natural born citizen.

Our nation deserved to know on Jan 8 whether its President-elect was legitimate.

Friedman resigned this week (NY Fed Chair) after making 3 mil on Sachs stocks......hope people take notice of a serious conflict of interest. The NY Fed now has 3 vacancies, almost unheard of.

Seems as though the bailouts are just a conspired scheme to line the pockets of the few. If Fannie & Freddie were really in such hoc during the Raines / Gorelick reign, why aren't they made to give those bonuses back?

Wait until the Option Arms reset the next 2 years, the commercial real estate bubble pops, and the now unemployed consumers default on a huge amount of credit card debt.

California is suffering from The Left's reign at the state level.......the future of the US goobermint and its budget are to follow.

I find that I don’t even care anymore. California needs to file for bankruptcy and let the chips fall where they need to. Our legislature is a joke. The deception, fraud, lies and incompetence coming from our politicians has now brought us to a point that some huge choices and decisions are going to have to be made. If I know of only one thing that will happen is that our politicians won’t respond. They won’t be able or willing to make any choices, let alone the right choices. Bankruptcy is the only option in my view. Our politicians can’t handle this situation.
They simply don’t have the guts or integrity to do so.

the best thing for California might be to go bankrupt...it’s the only way to stop the madness. --------------- I agree but watch out for a liberal bankruptcy judge to screw things up as well. Our whole system is infested by liberals who refuse to face facts, including our courts. I fear a movement to rewrite the constitution and if they do watch out for all the tricks to remove any constraint of government's ability to raise taxes anywhere they choose. I can see prop 13 as the first to be attacked as obstructing reform for the good of the state.
