What they should see is what a struggle it is to have a baby as a teenager. They should be told about the endless sleepless nights, the screaming, the self-denial motherhood requires, the expense, the exhaustion, the limitations.
Teenage mothers aren't getting attention like Bristol is. She's glamorizing teenage pregnancy. They'll say look at her she has this beautiful baby, she's dressed well, looks great, and now she is a born again virgin. I'll do what I want now, if things don't turn out well, everyone will excuse me and speak adoringly of me and hold me out as a role model for their daughters. What's the big deal? Things didn't turn out bad for her. I don't say condemn her, but to hold her out as a role model is beyond ridiculous.
I agree. She just got some contract with a (shoe?) company too. Folks are just not seeing the down side to her being a teen mom. She should just slip into obscurity.
Preaching abstinence to kids on the verge of sexual activity or who have already done it is not going to work. I don’t know the answer, perhaps more messages from teens dealing with the consequences of their decision to terminate would scare them? Or messages from girls sitting out their proms or senior trips or college? Or from hs boys working to make child support payments? Certainly they should encourage the use of birth control while giving stern warnings of the failure rate.
