Unwed teen mom Bristol Palin did a turnabout Wednesday with her views on teen sex, saying abstinence is a realistic option for teenagers.....Johnston said he and Palin had used condoms but occasionally had slipped up. That's how Tripp was conceived, he said.

I agree. She just got some contract with a (shoe?) company too. Folks are just not seeing the down side to her being a teen mom. She should just slip into obscurity.

Preaching abstinence to kids on the verge of sexual activity or who have already done it is not going to work. I don’t know the answer, perhaps more messages from teens dealing with the consequences of their decision to terminate would scare them? Or messages from girls sitting out their proms or senior trips or college? Or from hs boys working to make child support payments? Certainly they should encourage the use of birth control while giving stern warnings of the failure rate.

Most don’t get paid for this experience.

Bingo. Again, had she not originally come out and said that abstinence is not realistic, I might have cut her a break, but this just comes off as pure opportunism, and for the Palin camp, an attempt at damage control. We’re just calling it as we see it.

My comment was in regard to Bristol Palin not trashing Tripp’s father in public while she has the opportunity.

I also don’t have a problem with her now speaking up for abstinence. As I said in an earlier reply—she’s a young person learning the hard way.

She’s doing the best she can with the experience she has.

“Preaching abstinence to kids on the verge of sexual activity or who have already done it is not going to work.”

It will work with some. Kids do listen.

Your hate for Sarah Palin screams out of your every comment. Bristol is a young girl, young people make mistakes. Maybe Mon sat her down and blistered her ears with some common sense and told her she needed to be more responsible with her remarks. However, you, in your infinite wisdom and crystal ball know exactly why she changed her statement.

Calling her Saint Sarah actually says more than anything else you have said about the hate inside of you for Sarah and her family.

I would guess that you are either a libtard troll, an ugly woman(except for your user name), a fanatical religious zealot, a Romneybot or some other RINObot, or are just jealous for any number of other reasons. I left out stupidity because personal attacks on FR are forbidden.

Raises hand. I never had sex as a teen

“Most don’t get paid for this experience.”

Who’s getting paid? Oh yeah the dad is making book on all his appearances on Larry King and such.

The left is attacking this young woman and her mother. The same people who threw Palin’s baby under the bus during the election.

And you all are playing right along. Perhaps you think Obama has higher morals.

Nobody is using her, she is being paid for her appearances. They are not dragging her out of her house. She is just as bad as Levi. Using the only accomplishment of their lives to make a few bucks. I doubt anyone will pay your daughter for a speaking tour to talk about how she screwed around in high school.

I think she should just go away

I agree. This attempt to purify Bristol was a Lame Idea. I was disgusted. Is Bristol a part of *the Listening Tour*? What a Joke!

“She is just as bad as Levi.”

hardly

“I doubt anyone will pay your daughter for a speaking tour to talk about how she screwed around in high school.’

If I was famous and the Gov of a state who was a political target they probably would.

Someone has to speak out for what is right. If we wait for someone perfect to do the speaking we’ll be waiting for Jesus to return.

So “what is right” is to talk about your sexual antics in high school and get paid because you have a high profile mom?

Yes, exactly because once you have made a decision or decided on a method of operation then you must stick to it forever least you be judged as inteligent to recognize you have made a mistake.

In other words you advocate to one who has dug himself into a hole to keep digging.

Aren’t we waiting for Jesus to return? I’m not looking for perfection, but this trashy Palin soap opera is making the Republican party look like a bunch of clowns. Bristol and Levi deserve each other. Their only accomplishment is having a baby, and not even doing that well. They have to blab about their sex life to whom ever will listen.

The Sarah-Bots so much want to believe. We all wanted to believe after the convention. But it just isn’t there, folks. Time to look elsewhere.

hindsight is 20/20.

Before her pregnancy, Bristol obviously bought into the false message being sold to american teens - that abstinence is “unrealistic” - that condoms are the answer to all of life’s problems.

So now she has fresh in her mind the physical duress of pregnancy/labor/delivery.
She also is being slapped upside the head with the reality that many young men today (not all - but clearly Levi falls into this category) - are too immature to be relied upon.
She is being forced to grow up and care for an infant while Levi is on his “throw Bristol under the bus” publicity tour.

So - in retrospect, I can definitely see Bristol saying to herself “you know Bristol - this all could easily have been avoided...”
And for her to share this message with other teenage girls may be a help to some - and cannot hurt.
Afterall - many teens - like Bristol - only seem to learn the hard way.
