A Mexico City toddler who became the first swine-flu death on U.S. soil spent a day with his family shopping at Houston's Galleria mall the day before he began to show symptoms, although it wasn’t immediately clear where else in the city the child might have gone.

Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos says the Brownsville family with whom the toddler was staying said they spent three nights in Houston just before returning to Brownsville, where he fell ill on April 8.

Health officials said Wednesday that the 23-month-old Mexico City boy arrived in Brownsville on April 4 and became ill four days later with a fever, followed by other flu-like symptoms. They said he had no outside contact once he was hospitalized on April 13. The family has shown no symptoms.

The boy, who was rushed back to Houston and was admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital on April 14, died Monday night of pneumonia.

Those with brains tend to use capital letters once in a while.

You will make sure *you* don’t go out of the house the day before you develop symptoms, won’t you?

Usually it takes three days for a virus to show symptoms, right? He was already ill before going to the mall, they just didn’t know yet.

Adding: In other words, he brought the disease from Mexico City. He did not contract it in the U.S.

They said he had no outside contact once he was hospitalized on April 13. The family has shown no symptoms

There's a 24-48 hour incubation, so whoever was going to get sick from this kid would have come down with it already.

Isn't this the kid that was here for treatment of a pre-existing medical condition?

“He had “several underlying health problems,” according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, when his family flew to Matamoros on April 4 and then crossed into Brownsville to visit relatives.”

Prayers to get this demographic out of my country ASAP.

If they visited the Galleria, they were probably middle or upper middle class Mexican nationals.

He also had a busted shift key.

The message gets lost among the errors when folks write like little kids.

Says who? Last I checked, they weren’t demanding proof of income at the mall entrances. Could be they were high class shoplifters!
