MEXICO CITY/GENEVA, April 30 (Reuters) - Mexico's president told citizens to stay home from Friday for a five-day partial shutdown of the economy, after the World Health Organisation raised its alert level and said a swine flu pandemic was imminent.
In his first televised address since the crisis erupted last week, President Felipe Calderon told Mexicans to stay home with their families. The country will suspend non-essential work and services, including some government ministries, from May 1-5.
"There is no safer place than your own home to avoid being infected with the flu virus," Calderon said.

Headed out to find it this morning. Was going to go in the middle of the night last night....but thought better of it because of crime, etc. Hubby said no when I roused him to tell him I was ‘headed to the store’ at 3 this morning...lol.
Here’s a thought. What if this is phase 1 of a terrorist attack, and the purpose of this virus is to deplete our health care resources (including anti-virals) prior to release of a more serious virus?
Sorry, I know it’s a tinfoil hat theory, but it’s food for thought.
Do you have the link to that post?
I’m still not spending much time worrying about it- except for the oddness of the APPARENT facts on ground (reported mild to moderate symptoms and not as many deaths as originally reported) vs the reaction of the government and WHO.
I don’t know WHAT it is- but something isn’t normal.
Ping (Thanks, DvdMom!)
I'd have to agree with hubby. :)
“I dont know WHAT it is- but something isnt normal.”
I agree. The post was here originally:

I sure hope that it is something our governemnt is gaming at least. But who knows with these clowns in power now. They act like that are trying to destroy America.
A quirk of statistics. The most severe cases are seeking medical care, getting tested, and confirmed. The open end on the numbers comes from not knowing how many mild cases there are out there who were not tested and not confirmed.
Without knowing that, (because people with a mild case may not seek medical attention at all), the numbers will make the disease look more deadly, and less widespread at the same time.
Keep in mind that there are more people killed per day in car accidents in the US than this desease had killed worldwide.
INDEED.
THANKS for your kind words.
Very understandable.
Reading and memorizing Scripture is a high priority.

What everyone including my self (until now) has failed to see is that we have far past our pinnacle of freedom, and ability to express ourselves. EVERY single day past today, until the explosion, is only going to get worse for our freedom. There are no better days in our near future, than tomorrow, we all know and can feel that fact. But we deny it, because we seriously don’t want to face it. The perverse interest in our own destruction is the way to feel as if we know what is coming, and try to play a role in its path, but as we wait for that moment the sands of time pass us by.
There are things that you enjoy in this life, but have let fall by the waist side, and instead let your life and actions be ruled by fear, whether conscious or unconsciously being aware of that fact. I was once told that people are just a sum of their experiences, and throughout my life, it has become painfully obvious that that is an absolute fact. I think I realize now, that I want more and more experiences, so when my life flashes by my eyes, I know I lived it to the fullest, and not waiting in front of a computer screen, to figure out how and why I will die.
Get outside, enjoy the life that’s left, and seize the day. Make sure to love those you care about, and share moments that will last forever. Stop letting fear ruin your life, literally.
Who to believe. This is front and center on the LA Times website:
Scientists See This Flu Strain As Relatively Mild
http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-sci-swine-reality30-2009apr30,0,3606923.story
Dr. Christopher Olsen a molecular virologist who studies swine flu says to keep this outbreak in perspective. Remember the annual flu kills 10s of thousands.
Richard Webbey, a leading influenza virologist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital says “This virus doesn’t have anywhere near the capacity to kill like the 1918 virus”.
Peter Palese, a microbiologist and influenza expert at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in NY says, “There are certain characterists, molecular signatures, that this virus lacks”. In short it lacks an amino acid that would make the virus deadly.
I’m inclined to believe these quoted sources rather than a friend of a friend who knows someone at the CDC. No offense to anyone here.
Let’s be prepared but get facts before getting carried away.
I’m surprised they aren’t handing out masks for people on flights....since air travel just seems to ALWAYS be such an incubator....my husband has to fly to N. Carolina in a couple of weeks...hoping this passes by then...but, still thinking of sending him with a mask!!!

The oligarchy has a series of relentless devastations planned from hell.
Agree. There are many cavaliers here. Hopefully it turns out to be a dud but certainly there is apparently an increasing chance that this will not be the case.
THAT is interesting...re Apr 5, 2009 wake-up for Japan....wonder when OUR wake-up call will come...
No, you are trying to use that data as proof this is all a made up emergency to grab power.
Not that I don’t wonder if that is the case, using THOSE numbers to prove your point is wrong.
At the same time as WHO only has the 7 deaths listed, they have raised their alert level. Those numbers are going to be useless for quite some time, while things are reviewed and sorted out.
It is true that there may be people dying from other reasons, but there is probably a good reason to suspect that many people have died in Mexico from this particular flu.
I would add olive leaf and oil of oregano to that list. Also the old reliable vitamin C so you don’t get anything in the first place. I think I see a trip to GNC today.
