The New York Times reported last week that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, was waterboarded 183 times in one month by CIA interrogators. The "183 times" was widely circulated by news outlets throughout the world.
It was shocking. And it was highly misleading. The number is a vast inflation, according to information from a U.S. official and the testimony of the terrorists themselves.
A U.S. official with knowledge of the interrogation program told FOX News that the much-cited figure represents the number of times water was poured onto Mohammed's face -- not the number of times the CIA applied the simulated-drowning technique on the terror suspect. According to a 2007 Red Cross report, he was subjected a total of "five sessions of ill-treatment."

Agree. My first reaction to the headline was, “Darn, why not?”
I think he should be waterboarded everyday. I hope he is being waterboarded right now.
Or maybe the speaker missed what former CIA Director (and Bill Clinton appointee) George Tenet writes in his memoir, "At the Center of the Storm," about the CIA interrogation of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed:
"I believe none of these successes [in foiling terrorist plots] would have happened if we had had to treat KSM like a white-collar criminal -- read him his Miranda rights and get him a lawyer who surely would have insisted his client simply shut up. In his initial interrogation by CIA officers, KSM was defiant. 'I'll talk to you guys,' he said, 'after I get to New York and see my lawyer.' Apparently he thought he would be immediately shipped to the United States and indicted in the Southern District of New York. Had that happened, I am confident that we would have obtained none of the information he had in his head about imminent threats to the American people."
He was hit in the head with a board 183 times.
Only way to get his lazy butt out of bed.
You mean...
Sorta like celebrating the shaving of 100 million dollars off of a 3 trillion dollar budget?
Sorta like worrying about carbon dioxide when most of Africa and Asia doesn’t have enough clean water to drink?
Sorta like insisting on more AIDS research when heart attacks kill thousands of times as many people?
Do you think we’ve lost our sense of priority?
183 times only means that he really really liked it!
Well, we gotta cut him from the swim team now!
“He (KSM) was sitting across the table from his interrogator, and he just blurted out, ‘I killed Daniel Pearl. I killed him Hahal (slit his throat in a ritual fashion).’ There was no water-boarding, no belly slapping; just two guys sitting across the table having a cup of tea.”
I’d rather Khalid Sheikh Mohammed get water boarded 183 times a day, every day for the rest of his life.
It takes some people longer than others to learn how to swim. He must have been a slow learner...
darn
NOBODY would be able to keep a secret that long on the Waterboard.
Even 5 times is EXTRAORDINARY.
Hmm, so apparently according to the NYT, I “waterboard” myself in the shower every morning.
(Then I dry myself off with a towel and get ready for work — my dark secrets still mine alone. I’ve been through it thousands of times, and yet I do not crack. Bwahahahaha!)
“I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. For those who would like to confirm, there are pictures of me on the Internet holding his head.”—Khalid Sheikh Mohammed
and we threw WATER on this guy? HOW AWFUL!
“You guys on the left are the classic useful idiots.”
“Guys on the left?” Kiss my @$$.
“I don’t see a problem with water-boarding this scumbag 183 times or 1083 times.”
My only problem is that it was not enough.
“Id rather Khalid Sheikh Mohammed get water boarded 183 times a day, every day for the rest of his life.”
Sounds good to me.
Mustangman - You guys on the left are the classic useful idiots.
Me - I am not “on the left.” My only problem with the number of times that bastard was waterboarded is that it was not done enough. You misread my post and then accused me of being “You guys on the left.”
You sir, are the idiot.
