How are they going to get rescue crews in? Prayers up.

I wonder if our emergency planners ever ran a scenario like this one.

....the parts of Mexico City that sit on landfill in the lake ....

It is my understanding that the soil is wet and plastic and won’t transmit all the force to the surface as it wobbles like jello

This was a 5.6 155 miles away from Mexico City.

ZERO effect in Mexico city at all and likely very little effect (it was over 30 miles deep) in the mountains north of Acapulco where it was centered.

Think God might be trying to get their attention?

I think the Cocos plate slipped a bit under the North American plate, as it's done millions of times before.

Abortion was decriminalized in Finland in 1950, and not only have they never had a destructive earthquake, I’m unaware of them ever having a major natural disaster.

Every winter is a natural disaster in Finland.

Habakkuk 1:5-6
1:5 Look around you Habakkuk, replied the Lord, among the nations and see! And be Astonished! For I am putting into effect a work in your days such that you would not belive if it were told you.

1:6 For behold, I am rousing up the Chaldeans, that bitter and impetuous nation who march through the breadth of the earth to take possession of dwelling places that do not belong to them.

That’s why buildings there tend to sink over time (and in a quake, “over time” changes to “in a short time”).

Think God might be trying to get their attention?

Yep. He's trying to tell them not to build a huge city with millions of people living in filthy ghettos next to the intersection 3 tectonic plates.

Are you kidding? The whole place is a natural disaster for about 6 months out of the year. All they can do during that time is sit around in saunas, drink vodka and play on the internet.

It's brutal.

Too late.

Maybe he's trying to encourage them to scrap the whole thing and start over?

Lay off with the “America to blame” bullshit. Those people are hurting.
