Dismissing tea parties is perilous
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | Sunday, April 26, 2009 | Salena Zito

Everybody complains about taxes and government spending, but nobody does anything about them.

Perhaps that's because whenever they do something, they're often labeled as racists, right-wing extremists or worse.

That's what happened when various news organizations covered the April 15 "tea parties" across the country; the media clearly did not know what to make of such a robust turnout for the loosely organized events, and wound up dismissing or belittling them.

The tea party movement may or may not go forward -- but anytime the media or politicians dismiss a grassroots effort, they do so at great peril.

People attending those tea parties were consumers and voters, with a decent number of registered Democrats and independents sprinkled in.

Working on it! If and that is a 28 font IF, the next Tea Parties are grown well beyond 4/15 sizes. it will definately mean we are on our way to correcting this mess the dems and RINOs have gotten us into. (they didn’t really ignore us April 15, just pretended to)

By having more centralized Tea Parties at State Capitals or large cities to concentrate the great number of small town participation and the holiday 4th of July, the turnout should be surprising, to us, to the news media and the HNIC.

What is so exasperating is the speed in which this is all coming about. In the 50s, when I was 12, I remember listening to a Hungarian Freedom Fighter speaking of the revolt and the brutal takeover by the Communists, easily crushing their revolt.

He said that they knew things were in “the wings” but when things started happening, he was amazed at how quickly it all occurred. And look how long it took them to find their way back and at such great loss...

“By having more centralized Tea Parties at State Capitals or large cities to concentrate the great number of small town participation and the holiday 4th of July, the turnout should be surprising, to us, to the news media and the HNIC.”

I’m advocating for this also - concentrated turnouts on July 4th. I know we have EIGHT more teaparty days already scheduled between now and 2010 elections in Wa State. Now, will we really make a difference here - where nothing else has for 16 years. The proof will be in the pudding. But we will support and communicate the principles of conservatism and fiscal restraint, et al, and we will support the national movement.

We need to suggest that people sacrifice and travel to their state capitals (and as you say large cities) to make this point - then we can all retreat to the parks and enjoy a real satisfying 4th of July picnic!

Let’s do this! Do not let up!

Rockman also thinks the protesters polluted the rivers with their tea.

The Boston Tea Party was held in December 1773. George H. W. Bush beat Michael Dukakis in 1988 in part by calling attention to the fact that Boston harbor was still polluted. Obviously tea pollution doesn't go away quickly on its own.

Indeed so. Take for instance this incident where I went to the local tea party:

I took with me a black plastic sparring sword. The local “security” guy, I put quotes because he was dressed kinda as a pirate and had a walkie-talkie and told me that I couldn’t bring my sword (mind you there are sticks sharper than it). I said that it wasn’t a real sword. He said that it was about appearances. I said that New Mexico is on open carry state and he replied that we were just across the street from a police station. I was getting a bit frustrated at this time and said that it shouldn’t be a problem as I was both in my rights and not doing anything illegal, he again said that it was about appearances. I went and put it back in my car.

So, despite NM being an Open Carry state, despite me not actually having a weapon, and despite me NOT DOING ANYTHING ILLEGAL I was, for all intents and purposes, denied my right to bear arms.

Next time I’m taking my gun, loaded, and my copy of the state constitution. When the guy sights me on it [and starts whining/protesting its presence] I’ll reply: “By whose authority?”

We shall see weather the State Constitution is law, or just a piece of paper.

Having come from the left and Latin America this is all deja vu to me. My parents escaped Europe and handed me a legacy of knowing all the signs.

In hindsight, everything I wrote in my pre-election post is turning out to be coming true.

personally, i truly HOPE that the LEFTIST, DIMocRAT-controlled mass main-SLIME media DOES dismiss the tea parties as "lunatics", "racists"etc.

as long as they do, it can only HELP the TRUE CAUSE & get us evermore adherents.

The tea party movement may or may not go forward

Great article Salena. If I was a betting man, I'd say MAY. I know a number of die-hard BO worshipers who already having serious second thoughts about the direction BO is taking this country, and even they are unhappy. Can anyone say "Early Buyers' Remorse"?

Election purity CAN be restored.

Each state controls its own voting, usually through an office under the Secretary of State or Attorney General.

Three months before the 2010 elections, convince your state to declare the issue of voting in question and have them erase the voting rolls. Wiped clean. Have everyone who wishes to vote come to their town clerk’s office and re-register.

There is nothing illegal or immoral about it. Just wipe the voting rolls clean and have everybody re-register to vote.

Convince your state that there might be voter registration fraud and you want it done right.

So, in your estimation, how far are we from revolt?

I have no idea. I’m not sure we are a revoltin’ people, don’t know what sort of a trigger it would take. I am encouraged by the Tea Parties, they are well-attended, show class and send the proper message but nobody’s listening, well, we are of course.

Our large gatherings are disregarded by this administration, which is not sensitive to anything which is strange. To me, that shows that more is going on under the radar, things are being planned, formed, trained. Nobody is that dense (WH I’m saying).

This is a global push but he can’t quite get all the pieces in line yet but it will happen. Europe must be key. Europe will reform and rise, we may just end in chaos. Mexico is another trigger point, nobody’s really doing anything major with the border and haven’t since 9/11. Strange. We’ve been successfully invaded by Mexico for decades (I’m S. Texan, I worked that border for years) so we have an element within that must be organizing also, Aztlan movements are active and they are serious. I’m not saying that they could accomplish their goals but they sure could contribute to chaotic conditions, disruption of government, commerce, utilities, food, etc.

Remember the unbelieveable flood of people pouring into the streets complete with Mexican flags over “immigration”? That took organizing, those folks are usually very shy about such public appearances (being illegal) but not then. I believe that was a test too.

We will eventually learn about all the treasonous acts being committed one day by insiders, many that we probably trusted.
