The "swine flu" that has infected more than 1,000 people in Mexico has led a lawmaker on the House Homeland Security Committee to call on U.S. officials to close the southern border.
Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) said the border should be closed until the threat is resolved.
"The public needs to be aware of the serious threat of swine flu, and we need to close our borders to Mexico immediately and completely until this is resolved," Massa said in a statement.
"I am making this announcement because I see this as a serious threat to the health of the American public and I do not believe this issue is receiving the attention it needs to have in the news," Massa said.

Yes, I have. Didn’t see any celebs, but saw many “regular” folk from different countries, as well as wealthy ones. It was apparent to me that there are also a lot of Americans who live down there, at least part-time.
It’s going to be difficult to contain such things as the swine flu with the amount of travel people from every nation do these days for business, pleasure, adventure, and family reasons, but a great deal more could be done.
Arer you aware that it's not illegal for Mexicans to enter the U.S.? That there are legal border crossing Mexicans that come into our country every day? How about U.S. citizens crossing into Mexico and then coming back? Stop them too? Stop all international flights between the two countries?
Are illegal crossers the only ones who can carry swine flu?

Ummm .... stopping the swine flu has nothing to do with illegal immigration.
The flow of people going to and from Mexico needs to be stopped until this subsides.

Most of the time, an answer to any issue is very simple. I think you nailed it. This flu affected his voters kids. Got to keep up with the constituant service. OK there NY dim, it is ok for American citizens to be gunned down by narco gangbangers here in Texas as long as it doesn’t affect your ability to stay in office. If a problem doesn’t affect them directly, the lawmakers don’t give a rat’s ass. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We on our own folks. Be prepared.
Can FR dub this the “Mexican flu?” It emphasizes the dangers of open borders and illegal immigration.

Winston Churchill was a lonely voice warning against Hitler and National Socialism in the 1930’s. He also advocated supporting the White Russians to defeat Bolshevism - the origin of the USSR. Obviously, he was right.
I think there is a clear pattern of socialism in Obama’s agenda and his actions. He wants more state control over our lives and less individual freedom. There is no doubt about it. So we need to keep sounding the alarms, telling Congress what we think and arousing public opinion to a state of outrage against Obama and his Socialist Party.

White House news conference on flu will be given, not by Obama, but by Napolitano. If Obama weren’t Obama, I wouldn’t question HER giving the news conference ;)
The way I read this - the Congressman is not just asking to close the borders for illegals - he wants to “close the border” so no one gets in. That means trucks and commerce. Unfortunately since there is no wall I think this would mean nothing BUT illegals would be coming across. :-)
Closing the border seems rather draconian to me.
After all, these Mexicans are only contracting a disease that Americans don’t want to contract.
Once again they are providing a vital service to this country.

People are reading this and seeing what they would like to see, not what the dumb ass democrat actually said.
An earlier reply on this thread told what he did about driving to D.C. in a fuel efficent car and having to change cars half way there and having two tow trucks come along to make it all possible. It’s grand standing for sure with this rat, he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about how many illegals come into this country.
Obama may be a carrier too.
All for impeachment of Zero on those grounds. And arrest of “W” for his reprehensible hand in it (wide open borders) for the last 8 years as well. In fact, swine flu has only killed a fraction of people so far, where as 10s of thousands of Americans have already been killed by Illegal Aliens. So this is just a logical extension.
Downside being less taxpayers, so those who survive will have to pay 300% taxes to cover all the ‘stimulus/bailout/crap’ that HolyO has indebted the USA and my great grandchildren for!!
Usual dolts in Washington using catastrophe for their own political gain. Its too late. May as well close it and shut off air travel to and from there. But it doesnt matter because its already here. You cannot contain it. Wonder if it gets worse if Mexicans will seek refuge in US.
