Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter (R) finds himself down 21 points to former Rep. Pat Toomey in a potential 2010 Republican primary, according to a new Rasmussen poll. Specter now has a 42%/55% favorability rating, while Toomey enjoys a 66%/19% rating.
Toomey lost to Specter by a slim margin in the 2004 Senate primary, but in an on-camera interview with Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter Salena Zito, Toomey said things are different this time.
"It's a very different race," Toomey said. "I think the press has figured out that this time the outcome is going to be different."
"Let me assure you, I wasn't waiting around to do this. I had no intention of running again," he said. "And then all of a sudden I saw our federal government doing things that I never thought was possible."

Ooo-Rah!
I’m ready to go RINO hunting in the primaries next years and Arlen’s head will make a good trophy (if not an ugly one).
if the RNC supports Arlene, I’m never giving them another dime.
I’m sure if the RNC sees the writing on the wall, they will back Pat...
One way to rid ourselves of these ridiculous RINOs.
BUMP - Lets get rid of Sphincter, probably the republican least loyal to conservative principals currently residing in the US Congress.
But by all means if you’re going to vote in the primary you better vote in the general, regardless of whatever ‘revelations’ the left digs up after the primary designed to drive down republican turnout, cause we’ll only get one shot at this. Otherwise we’ll get another dem for life along with Casey.
Could it be that some Pennsylvania conservatives are finally awaking from their RINO induced stupor?
Of course the RNC will support Specter, he’s their RINO. The NJ State GOP absolutely refuses to back conservatives. The national is no different. It is, afterall, a demrat pawn.
The easy part is the primary.
Can Toomey win a general election in Pennsylvania?
Yo, John123—What are you sniffing? Why would the RINO-led RNC back a conservative? They are really demrats in their souls and, as such, they are demrat pawns.
No way the RINOs will embrace conservatives—let alone assist them to positions of power. Why can’t you understand that conservatives are not welcome at the RINO-controlled RNC table?
I WILL write a check to Pat Toomey, assuming he is running.
I used to worry about if the Republican candidate could win. Arlen Specter won the last time as a Republican, but he voted with the Socialists when it really mattered. So Specter has to go, regardless of who is ultimately elected.
Not if Snarlin' Arlen can pull a Jesse Ventura, and get 34 percent while his two opponents get 33 apiece. Frankly, just on name recognition alone, he ought to be able to get at least 40 percent.
Otherwise, they'll just pity him and with the help of cross-over Democrats reelect him.
Toomey Beats Specter!

Zito is no friend of conservatives.
No.
I assume Toomey is screaming from the rooftops his opposition.
Of course the communists at the UMW will affix the blame for Pa. coal mining job losses to..., well who will they blame.
