Pelosi: I didn't know about waterboarding

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pushing back on GOP charges that she knew about waterboarding for years and did nothing.

Pelosi says she was briefed by Bush administration officials on the legal justification for using waterboarding — but that they never followed through on promises to inform her when they actually began using "enhanced" interrogation techniques

"In that or any other briefing…we were not, and I repeat, we're not told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation techniques were used. What they did tell us is that they had some legislative counsel ... opinions that they could be used," she told reporters today.

Earlier, House Minority Leader John Boehner (D-Ohio) criticized Pelosi and other Democratic leaders for backing probes into the use of waterboarding — after failing to raise objections during briefings on its potential use.

"Well, yesterday I saw a partial list of the number of members of the House and Senate, Democrats and Republicans, who were briefed on these interrogation methods and not a word was raised at the time, not one word," Boehner told reporters at his weekly news availability.

"And I think you're going to hear more and more about the bigger picture here, that what — the war on terror after 9/11 was done in a bipartisan basis on lots of fronts. And that bigger story will be coming out," he added.

Pelosi says members who receive classified intelligence briefings are powerless to act on them — or even discuss them with staff.

As a consequence, some members simply skip the meetings, so they aren't "hamstrung" by confidentiality requirements.

The more that comes out, the more I am looking forward to the “trials” that the moonbats want. No wonder Harry Reid is backing away from this as if it were week-old garbage.

Obama and his Socialist Congress are trying to “blame” the Bush Admin for the fact that we have had no terrorist attacks in the US since 9/11/01. Obama and his fellow Socialists have profound brain defects.

The question we should all be asking is this: What is the Obama Admin doing now to prevent a terrorist attack — another 9/11 or worse here in the US? So far all of Obama’s actions have been geared to helping the terrorists -— releasing those held at Gitmo, announcing that we will pull all troops out of Iraq, and appeasing Iran, the biggest state sponsor of terrorism in the world -— to give a few examples.

Who will Obama blame when the inevitable “new” 9/11 happens?

Liar!!!

***In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA’s overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.***

If they don’t attend the meetings, it can be argued that they’re not doing their jobs. Seems to me that if they don’t want to do the jobs, they should not have them. If they didn’t want to agree to the interrogation techniques, then they had every opportunity during the meetings to go on the record to voice their disagreements.

The democrats need better, more responsible leadership.

The law then was it was legal. The law now is that it’s not. Obama banned by by executive order (I think) as one of his first actions.

Already know where you’re going with this. Since it was legal then they cannot legally be prosecuted for it. Of course that won’t stop them...see taxes on AIG bonuses.

Pelosi then added that she has never used botox or had any other type of cosmetic surgery.

We were told, er, not told, that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation techniques were used. What they did tell us is that they had some legislative counsel ... opinions that they could be used. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Thanx for the info. Can this law only be changed with executive order? Did Bush use executive order to begin using these interrogation methods, after 9/11 or did Bush inherit Bill Clinton’s policy?
