Much of the talk about the U.S.-Mexico relationship these days centers on the flow of illegal guns south over the border. Fair enough, and long overdue.
American weapons, easily bought thanks to woefully lax gun-control laws, are winding up in the arsenal of Mexican drug cartels, who are murdering thousands and destabilizing our southern neighbor.
The havoc is spilling over into our border states.
But let's not neglect an equally dangerous trend in firearm trafficking - namely, the flow of illegal weapons from America's Southern states north, especially to big cities like New York.
As crime has declined in some big cities in recent years, that war has gotten less ink. But blood is still staining the streets, and easy access to guns is a big reason why.
We've said it before and we'll say it again: Most of the guns used in New York City crimes come from out of state - from places like Virginia, where it's criminally easy to get your hands on a firearm.

Lord knows the bad guys are just about done for with all the laws we have in place already. Banning scary looking guns oughta be the final nail in their coffin.
Smuggling arms across border - yep, illegal.
Unauthorized entering into the US from Mexico, yep illegal(except to Janet Napolitano and Rudy Giuliani).
Selling and distributing drugs - check, still illegal.
Murder. Check.
Kidnapping. Check.
Bribing officials. yep
We really have them in a box now.
GIVE US A WALL!
You can’t trample the Second Amendment just because the Mexicans are a bunch of homicidal idiots. Their violence is not OUR problem.
Our zero is ‘gettin’ ‘er done’ isn’t he.....?
That's what the logic behind this editorial sounds like.
That line pretty much sums up the gun-grabbers' approach to the subject.
Easier to ban our guns and the Second (so they think) then enforce immigration laws and protect the border. What a joke.
There is that term “assault weapons” again. Here it serves to identify an auto loading one-shot-per-trigger-pul AR15 with an M5 submachine gun or an RPG. You call all of those “assault weapons” then say that “assault weapons”(semi-auto rifles) are being sold in American stores therefore the machine guns and RPGS in use in Mexico all came from WalMart.
This issue is the most remarkable study of the manner by which demagogues use “The Big Lie.”
Funny how the media wasn’t very interested in the finding of an antiaircraft gun down there last week. Guess they figured even they couldn’t sell that story as one about a gun sold at a gun show.
Is the problem Illegal aliens through a porous border? No.
Is the problem rampant corruption in the Mexican Government? No.
It’s guns. And we need to ban them here.
Where’s the “barfer”? I just ate.

How objective. I guess the lib writer has the facts ready and tracked “most” (as he wants us all to know) guns that are coming from Virginia, home of the ‘gun-crazy criminals’.
I think we should just ban Mexico - that will solve everything. It will end the flow of drugs, end the flow of illegals, end the drain that Mexicans are placing on each state’s social services networks and end the flow of guns into Mexico.
Of course, we could also demand that Mexico fix its own d@mn problems and stop treating the US as a dumping ground for its unwanted people and the whipping boy for all of its problems.
Not that I expect the Obamoron to send that message to Calderon, but SOME US president should grow a pair and tell the Mexicans EXACTLY that!!!
Me too, fortunately I don’t throw up unless I’m sick.
The Mexican cartels appear to have access to full-auto weapons, grenades, and RPGs. How long before Mexican gangsters in the US get the same from Mexico? And how will the gun controllers rationalize things when gang bangers are using full-autos smuggled from Mexico?
It is already against federal law to buy guns in one state and resell them in another without going thru a licensed dealer. It’s also against the law to smuggle them accross the mexican border.
Regarding a new AWB, we have something new we didn’t have in ‘94 when the 1st AWB was created by the feds......... SCOTUS ruled the 2A RKBA applied to us individuals. A new AWB may not pass heller muster.
Crime is in direct proportion to the amount of human trash allowed to run free in the population.
If the proportion of firearms were doubled and the proportion of human trash remained the same, I don't believe there would be a significant increase in crime.
If the number of firearms were doubled, and the proportion of human trash were reduced by one half, there would surely be a significant decrease in crime.
It is the human trash component which contributes most significantly to the levels of crime, and the only realy way to effectively decrease the levels of crime is to reduce the proportion of human trash running free in society.
This explains to my satisfaction the situation in the "northern cities" the author mentions.
You have it exactly. It’s not only how much trash there is, but what you do with the trash that makes the difference. For instance, despite all the guns in Virginia, the crime rate there is only a fraction of what it is in D.C. or New York. Why? If guns = crime, and gun control stops crime, then D.C. and New York should be much, much safer places than Virginia, but the opposite is true. It’s all in how you deal with criminals: D.C , for instance, is where you get probation for felonies, and Virginia is where you get jail time for misdemeanors.
I think my tagline says all I need to say about this idiotic subject.
