Gun-Rights Advocates Rally At Capitol (Pennsylvania)

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Hundreds of gun-rights advocates packed the state Capitol Rotunda Tuesday as a coalition of state lawmakers, most of them Republicans, pushed for proposals aimed at protecting those rights.

Several participants mentioned their particular opposition to a bill introduced by Philadelphia state Rep. Angel Cruz, which would require a $10-a-gun yearly tax and force gun owners to submit a recent photograph and be fingerprinted. If you would like to look at Cruz's bill, you can click here.

Some said Cruz's bill violates gun owners' rights.

"The rights violation is privacy. Do we have a privacy right in Pennsylvania? Is it not stronger than the federal right? Do we just give up privacy rights because of the supposed benefit when nobody's proven it?" said Kim Stolfer, of Firearm Owners Against Crime.

Cruz spoke to News 8 and responded to the criticism.

"If the government gives you the right to bear arms, the government can give you restrictions on how you handle yourself to have the right to bear arms. And my bill doesn't do anything to hurt anybody. It's just a registry so we can find out who's buying, who's selling, who has at all times," said Rep. Cruz.

Is this man completely clueless?
"If the government gives"?

This is satire, right?

Wonderful! NOTE: The 2nd Amendment is SELF-incorporated to all government entities at every level. It is MORE ABSOLUTE than the 1st Amendment, or any of the others, because the wording forbids not only CONGRESS, but ANYONE from infringing on it. The 1st says “Congress shall make no law...”. The 2nd say “shall NOT be infringed!” Period! End of debate!

This guy needs an education in American history, fast.

Our rights aren't given to us by creeps like you, Mr. Cruz. And no bill you write and manage to get passed can take them away from us.

Philadelphia state Rep. Angel Cruz

The best thing that could happen would be for Philth-adelphia to secede to Jersey.

Makes one wonder if people like this are ignorant about where rights come from,

or if they’re simply dishonest and make statements like this to justify their control and infringements on our rights.

Fast Eddie and the usual suspects have been trying to use the Pittsburgh cop shootings to whittle away at the 2nd. Amendment. I think that is going over like a lead balloon.

"If the government gives you the right to bear arms, ...

Right there is Ahn-hell's big mistake. The right to self-defense isn't given by the gubmint. It is from our Creator. Guns have simply replaced the rocks, spears, bows, and knives of yesteryear.

I’m all for it, as long as we also have a $10 per year pen tax.
