When someone with a terminal illness decides to end their life by overdosing on barbiturates, they hope the drugs will lull them into a peaceful and permanent sleep. But if the drugs have passed their expiration date or lack a sufficiently lethal concentration, the would-be suicide victim may actually survive - risking an array of complications including coma, reduced physical functioning and the opprobrium of disapproving friends and family. Now, in an effort to provide certainty to those contemplating suicide, one of the world's leading euthanasia advocates plans to sell barbiturate testing kits to confirm that deadly drug cocktails are, in fact, deadly.
"People who are seriously ill don't want to experiment," says Dr. Philip Nitschke, the physician known as 'Dr. Death' for his efforts to legalize euthanasia in his native Australia. "They want to know they have the right concentration of drugs so that if they take them in the suggested way it will provide them with a peaceful death."
The kits, which will debut in Britain in May and retail for $50, include a syringe that allows users to extract half a milliliter of barbiturate solution without breaking the sanitary seal. "Clearly sterility doesn't matter given that death is the desired outcome," Nitschke says. But the solution deteriorates slower in a sterile environment, allowing those with painful conditions to "lock it away in the back of the cupboard in case things gets too bad." The extracted sample is then mixed with chemicals from the kit; a color change indicates a lethal solution.

Alive, well and somewhat deranged.

That's putting it kindly.
Lord Jesus, you healed so many people during your public ministry. I bring before you now, in prayer, all those who are terminally ill -- those afflicted with cancer, AIDS, and other illnesses.
|
Look lovingly and compassionately upon them. Let them feel the strength of your consolation. Help them and their families to accept this cross they are asked to carry. Protect them from euthanasia, Lord.
|
Let them see you carrying their cross with them, at their side, as you once carried yours to Calvary. May Mary be there, too, to comfort them.
|
Lord Jesus, I know and believe that, if it is your will, you can cure those I pray for (especially N.). I place my trust in you. I pray with faith, but I also pray as you did in Gethsemane: your will be done.
|
Bless us, Lord, and hear my prayer. Amen.

“You do not advocate that a person may decide his own death BUT you advocate murder of others! Interesting.”
May I suggest Googling the following words: satire, sarcasm, irony?
Actually, I was merely practicing the Saul Alinsky method of political attack in hope of having Obama send me a job offer.
:-)
PS Do Google those words before you answer this.
PPS Shuldn’t a Liberal have chosen ‘retro-active abortion’ instead of ‘murder’?
“Capital punishment is a collective right of the state, it has NEVER been an individual right and it is a PUNISHMENT, not a treatment.”
Effectively speaking, the right to self defense carries the right to kill in the defense of one’s own life. Which is, again speaking in practical terms, the right to impose capital punishment at the scene of the crime, during the attempt to commit the crime.
>>The kits, which will debut in Britain in May and retail for $50, include a syringe that allows users to extract half a milliliter of barbiturate solution without breaking the sanitary seal. “Clearly sterility doesn’t matter given that death is the desired outcome,”<<
I wonder what keeps addicts (or kids who aren’t addicts yet)from buying the kits just for the barbiturates?
I agree, but defense of self or others IS different from a lawful finding of guilt and the subsequent punishment.
The kits only test the strength of the barbiturates, it doesn’t provide them.
Amen!
>>The kits only test the strength of the barbiturates, it doesnt provide them.<<
I missed that. Thanks.
Thank you.
Death is forever.
That was a liberal troll trying to take the ‘moral high ground’ in order to feel good about himself.
I used to do the same thing in internet forums when I was a liberal.
I was willing to let it go for a time, but I refuse to be accused of supporting capital punishment for breaking the Sabbath.
I actually used to be a liberal troll here on FR about 4 years ago. I was the guy always sticking up for the rights of pedophiles and mass murdering jihadists. Remember that nut? When someone would disagree, I would accuse them of being “bloodthirsty just like the criminals, no better than them”. I would also defend abortion and euthanasia as part of the “human quest to achieve a world free from suffering”. I would also lie through the teeth and misrepresent the words of opponents. Standard leftist tactics.
Also, you made the right choice in letting it go. There is no argument in the world that can make him think straight. It took a major epiphany to change me.
I didn’t exactly “let it go,” I pointed out that he was a damn liar and then JimRob told him to get off the thread.
Well, come on, man, spill it! Can't leave us hanging like that.
I’ve had people wrote long loooong responses trying to change my mind.
The realization was two-fold:
1. I wasn’t very knowledgeable or wise, not even for a 19 year old.
2. John Lennon was wrong! Neither the hippy movement nor academia will not create heaven on Earth.
I was also so engrained in atheism that even now I struggle finding faith.
God is waiting for you. He is patient.
