VANITY: folks tying tea bags to rear view mirrors?

Posted on 04/17/2009 7:28:27 AM PDT by gogulls

I searched the site before posting this: are folks tying tea bags to rear-view mirrors? Just tied two on my SUV (separated by my tree air-freshener, that is)

Good idea about mailing in the label! I assumed they’d be throwing the actual teabags away.
But my question wasn’t about the logistics. I probably should have asked if anyone had any idea how many envelopes with teabags/labels arrived this week at the Whitehouse.

The sweet aroma of Earl Grey could be a definite distraction.

That's a good law IMO. I've seen cars with so much crap hanging I don't see how they could see to drive.

Maybe you could hang your tea bags from your trailer hitch like people do with the bull nut$.

Ditto in Virginia.

Hang them from your outside mirror!

(you might want to replace the contents with styrofoam beads to avoid getting tea stains on your door, tho...)

Someone needs to go into production of public display tea bags-- big ones, in red, white and blue!

My brother has them hanging from his boat hitch on his truck.

I fail to see how an air freshener (tea bag, etc.) would impinge on driver safety in any way.

Was stopped once and received a warning.

I think they think it would be a distraction.

Am thinking of having my husband paint a huge tea bag and a tag. Then I can just add a piece of string and tape it to our rear window.

Added bonus: it will probably act like an air freshener, making the car smell like tea.

But if you’re like me and don’t like the smell of tea...

I (we) saw lots of this on cars driving by our Tea Party.

Just a warning... if a cop in a speed-trap needs to fill his quota, he can and will pull you over for this (in NJ, at least). The citation will be for "obstructed view" or words to that effect. It has happened to me and also to others I know.

A "sympathetic" cop may also cite you for this (if applicable), if he pulled you over for something else (e.g., a little over the speed limit) and wants to "give you a break."

What an idiotic law. Why, pray tell?

Some people insist on hanging vast quantities of crap from their mirrors. The general idea is to avoid having drivers with a major blockage of their forward vision.

If it something you can share, how did you come across the DHS license plate information?

I was thinking more along the lines of one (1) air freshener, or something to that effect.

The idea is that visibility should not be restricted. I don’t have the law in front of me, maybe Dustbunny has, but I believe the rule is that an object should not cover 20% of the window (teabag wouldn’t do that!)
In any case, no cop in PA is going to stop you because there’s a teabag hanging off your rvm. Other stupid reasons, sure, but not that one.
They are actually very reasonable here...YMMV!

It is illegal here in MN as well. An officer friend of mine says this is his favorite daytime excuse to pull someone over because he suspects something fishy. He usually only gives a warning, unless he discovers something else or if he is treated poorly.

Great idea! I’m going to get the large size tea bags (the ones used for making sun tea).

A tea bag/tea party bumper sticker would be a good idea, too.

OMG. Do you know what the carbon footprint of those things are?

All kidding aside an interesting idea but it might be more noticeable to hang them in your back window or have them flapping from inside your trunk. I notice things in back windows and rear bumper stickers more than what's hanging from interior mirrors.

When I first read this post, that’s what I was thinking about.

What if all the pickup truck owners hung them off their trailer hitches.
