Reporting from Carlisle Barracks, Pa. -- Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said Thursday that the Obama administration would move cautiously in shifting policies on gays serving openly in the military, but he signaled that service members should prepare for possible changes.
In his most extensive remarks to date about the ongoing ban on gays who serve openly, Gates said he and other military leaders had "begun a dialogue" with President Obama about the issue.
Obama promised during last year's presidential campaign to end the ban on gays in the military, and the White House said recently that it was reviewing the issue. Gates said Obama had been clear with the military about his position.
"We will do what the president asks us to do," Gates said at the Army War College. "There is a law; we will uphold the law. If the law changes, so will our policies."

The article is lying. There is no ban on gays serving in the military. Gays just are not to brag about their sexual adventures.
A Navy O-3 buddy of mine, currently assigned to the Pentagon, is leaving the service in disgust this summer. I expect there will be a lot more following him...

So what is it that makes him a POS? Is he advocating a change? No, he’s said the law is the law and the military policy will be to uphold the law and when that changes so will the policies. Do you want him to violate the law and polices? I doubt it.
Is he inserting his personal beliefs into the discussion?Nobody knows.
BTW: Where was he before? CIA. Maybe, just maybe, by bringing it up, he’s creating the a counter-op firestorm to ensure that it doesn’t change.

Note to PurpleMan- anyone advocating, allowing, going along with, tolerating, or in any other way helping the military change its policy to a “gay” friendly policy is, by definition, a POS.
