Acknowledging that “an apology is owed,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano promised Thursday to “meet and clear the air” with veterans groups that were offended by her agency’s report citing “returning veterans” as terrorist risks to the U.S.
“To the extent veterans read it as an accusation,” Napolitano told FOX News, “an apology is owed.”
“I’ll meet with the leaders of some of the veterans groups,” she promised on “FOX & Friends.” “The last thing we want to do is offend or castigate all veterans. To the contrary, let’s meet and clear the air.”
Napolitano said she was briefed on the report, including the warning about returning veterans, before it was released.

I understand what you are saying, I really do. The thing is our Founding Fathers warned us about this — the PEOPLE cannot KEEP the government from abusing POWER it GIVES the government ITSELF... That’s why no matter WHAT excuse was used the laws were BAD. It was only a matter of TIME before someone abused the laws. We can’t even stop them from taxing us to death, and you believe we could STOP them from abusing a law that overreached to begin with?
As far as “working well”. Granted, these laws WERE used well in many cases when it came to combating actual terrorism. I ADMIT I have mixed feelings, and many people I argued with years ago made good points as well — that some of these laws were NEEDED because our LEO’s hands were tied, and they COULDN’T investigate some of these people properly.
Again though I come back to my point, and I hope people understand WHY I feel this way. It’s the SAME thing I try to explain to the Socialists who think their laws are JUSTIFIED, and as long as there is a “Good” leader we’ll be OK... ANY POWER the PEOPLE GIVE to the GOVERNMENT WILL BE USED AGAINST US! Again, it’s only a matter of TIME. The liberals are RIGHT NOW using this logic in justifying the Socialist grab of power in the government RIGHT NOW — “But Obama is a ‘good’ man, we can trust him”. Even IF Obama was trustworthy, any power he takes WILL be used against us by someone who will come along and SEEK to use that POWER.

It’s as true today as it was back then... Once our rights are GONE they are GONE. To believe that WE THE PEOPLE have control of this government is naive, IMHO. The last few months with Obama in office should’ve disabused any of any notion otherwise, IMHO.

If I had to guess, McVeigh learned how to make fertilizer bombs from the book “The Turner Diaries”, where the process is spelled out in bollix-aching detail. As you will recall, he was found with a well-thumbed copy of this book in his possession.

The text from the Southern Policy Law Center web site was quoted in the DHS report, but was strangely attributed to “a prominent civil rights organization” and not to SPLC. Is DHS ashamed of its disreputable and bogus sources for this report? It should be.
But anyone with the time can do textual comparisons of SPLC material from its web site, with this ridiculous DHS report and see that one begat the other. Certainly the tone and content are very similar. The DHS report has very few (zero) attributions which is odd for a federal government report of any kind. They are usually festooned with footnotes and supporting citations.
In any case here’s the verbatim text I found, first from the DHS report and second from the Southern Poverty Law Center:

Read, “The Third Terrorist” by Jayna Davis. These aren’t GUESSES, as to whether the OKC bombing was a Muslim Terrorist action. There is PROOF, an ABUNDANCE of proof actually (even without the building remains), that McVeigh had NOTHING to do with any “militia”, but WAS DEEPLY involved with MUSLIM RADICAL TERRORISTS...
Labeling McVeigh as a “right-winger” has actually HELPED the terrorists... Not only did it get the “heat” off the Muslim Terrorists (heat that could’ve busted them and PREVENTED 9/11), but, if we look to the future, and we look at what these liberals who are SYMPATHETIC to the MUSLIM TERRORISTS are trying to do it will ONLY benefit the TERRORISTS in the end... If the U.S. Government “cracks down” on Right-Wing “militia” members, and extremists then they will be CLEARING THE WAY for MORE terrorist actions in the U.S...
Think of it this way — say the U.S. Government incorrectly identifies the threat as us “Conservatives”. What happens when the MUSLIM TERRORISTS, REALLY get “going” with their plans? Those of us who the Japanese Emperor was scared of — those Americans behind every blade of grass with a gun — will be GONE then. And the TERRORISTS here will only be up against LIBERALS who are too stupid to realize they are playing into their hands...
I am probably not doing that great of a job explaining this, because YES I am angry at the moment...
