National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn has thrown his weight behind Sen. Arlen Specter, who is likely to face a tough renomination fight against former Club for Growth President Pat Toomey:
"My job as head of the NRSC is to guide the GOP back to a majority in the Senate," wrote Cornyn to Pennsylvania Republicans. "I can't do that without Arlen Specter. With him as our nominee, I can target our campaign resources toward beating Democrats and growing the Senate Republican Conference."

Doesn't that count fer sumpin?
Yes, it does. It means that, after considering other aspects of their records, those INDIVIDUALS should be the target of donations rather than the party. The party is toast.
National GOP gets NO more donations from me.
What these idiots never seem to understand is that polling people is just a litle tiny piece of the picture. If the party drives off all its committed workers by sending our money to weasels they will have no workers to drive folks to the polling places, to drive around putting up signs and knocking on doors. No workers = no voters. Dis the base and disappointing turnout go together.
It ain’t about changing voters from dem to rep. The margin is thin and turnout is the difference. Get your workers excited and they will excite the turnout.
So go ahead and play it safe with your professional baby kissing wishy washy poli-mediocricians and you’ll get lukewarm energy, lukewarm effort, and a result not worth a bowl of lukewarm snot.
“National GOP to Back Specter”
National GOP is out of their mind. GOP is going to be out of power for many years if they keep making bonehead decisions like this. Disgusting.
What so these Rinos want? Why don’t they just become Democrats? They’re p***ing on all conservatives - sorry for the language but this is purely sickening!!!
To be quite frank, I’d rather see a Rino than a young dem. The idea that a young dem is preferred to a Rino is what got us to where we are. And yes, we have a primary system and we can get the Rino’s out, but we have to vote during the primaries to get that done.
If the GOP does as you seem to suggest, then the GOP will be playing checkers while the rats chess. Do we always want them to outflank us? We have to be strategic about these things, with a goal in mind. Otherwise, we’ll always end up losing.
Send your money directly to the candidates. Pat Toomey is a great communicator and represented a blue collar Democrat district for years before running against Spector. I sincerely believe he can win in 2010. Oba Mao fatigue should be setting in even here in Pennsylvania.
“They wont get a dime from me!”
And tell the WHY the next time they ask you for money.
I think that's pretty much the case.
No matter what, they figure you don't have any choice.
Principle doesn't matter to them. It's all money and power.
Won't do you much good. We're overrun with illegals, and Cornyn is an alleged Texan!
Must be taking the long way around, 'cause he's headed the wrong way.
Note he just wants a majority, it is about control, but not necessarily for conservative reasons.
It is not just the stupid party, but the persistant habit of Conservatives who get out from under the bus after every election cycle and get back aboard, to get thrown back under the bus again next cycle.
The only way to stop this is to change the GOP leadership, or not play any more.
After decades of observing the results, I am convinced that the shuffle of power back and forth across the aisle only advances parts of the Socialist agenda the other side could not. The direction remains the same, no matter who is in control.
No sense in falling for their paranoia either. I say, "send them so much tea they'll choke on it."
Amen, that is why we have primaries!
And when there is a primary, they let everyone vote in them.
Leftists love that.
I may be going that route myself.
I am fed up with the GOP and its Bush bailouts
The GOP is as much a big gov't party as the Democrats are.
And how many of those same Republicans voted FOR the Bush bailouts?
And we are talking about supporting ONE of the Senators who sided AGAINST that united GOP to get the bill passed.
The GOP should be punishing him, not rewarding him.
So, the time has come for the GOP to be purged or go the way of the Whigs.
If we can’t take back the GOP what makes you think we can form an electable third party?
Bah. I was thinking today about how the GOP always craps all over us and perhaps becoming an Independent. But maybe we should all become Democrats and sow trouble in their midst, rather than be unaffiliated. The GOP absolutely blows and it’s about where we can do the most damage.
Don’t let the RINOs drive you out. Take the party back.
Get involved in the GOP and help change primary voting rules. Don’t let the RINOs and Dems win.
