It's been all over the news - Rush Limbaugh packing up camp and abandoning his operations in New York City. It's been the subject of a Jon Stewart "The Daily Show" tirade [0] and even drew the attention of New York Gov. David Paterson [0].
Limbaugh appeared on Fox News Channel's April 8 "Your World with Neil Cavuto" [1] and explained why he was leaving and how he felt about those that were glad he was leaving.
"Well, if they're glad I'm leaving, Neil, then I assume that the governor of New York, the unelected governor - has no interest in the tax revenue he collects from me, in which case I would ask him to call off his audit dogs," Limbaugh said. "You know, one thing that hasn't been reported in this and I've mentioned it each time I've talked about stopping doing business in New York is I left New York as a resident in 1997. I moved down here to Florida, and I have been audited every year. This has been going on since '97. This is 12 years that I have been audited. The most recent audit is for the last three years. It's been going on since October."
Limbaugh told Cavuto he'd lead the modern-day "Atlas Shrugged" exodus out of the New York, but didn't think everyone would follow. He said some would stay behind.
"I've joked and I said, ‘Look if he wants to drive people out of there, I'll lead the way.' I'm sure that there are people in New York who will stay and put up with this," Limbaugh said. "I mean, liberals are liberals first, and they will be convinced that they're doing the Lord's work here by having more taxes confiscated. If there was some value for it that one could see, but look at the out of control budgets this state has, the out-of-control spending, and the ‘spending cuts' are always mythical. I've never seen a budget get smaller at a state or federal government level. You might have individual bureaucracies that get cut, but overall, budgets never go down."
He told viewers he was a victim of his public persona and that his tax dollars are being wasted by the state and local governments.
"The only reason I'm a poster child for it is because I'm hated, envied, and despised by people that live there in the media and so forth," Limbaugh added. "I'm a convenient target, and this is another way for people to have fun. I think it's more serious than that. I left New York in '97 specifically to escape the onerous income taxes I was paying then. It's not a question, like I said, of, ‘I can afford it,' or it's something that I don't need. It's stupid! It's stupid to waste money - and taxes in a profligate and wasteful state like New York are wasted. They do not accomplish anything. You know, really, Neil, if you look at the structure of New York City, with all the high-rise condominiums and apartments and co-ops, those streets ought to be paved with gold just from the property taxes collected from one building."
The auditors, Limbaugh claimed, even went as far as requested to go to Limbaugh's residences to determine which one he lived with their aggressive tactics.
"And they claimed I owed them x-number of millions," Limbaugh said. "They even wanted to come, Neil, to both my residences, New York and Florida, to see which one was really more lived in, which one had all the pictures. I mean, the hassle these audits has just reached a point."
I know the worship gets a little thick sometimes but he DOES put on a pretty good radio show.
I don't think he's strictly a democrat either.
It’s as bad as being in probation.
This has been going on for a very long time and not just in California. Currently, FEDERAL LAW (TITLE 4 > CHAPTER 4 > § 114) forbids income tax on a non-domiciled taxpayer. What happens in the future is more problematical because the states with the greatest tax deficits also have very large Congressional Delegations. A cabal of the desperate is not an unthinkable movement.
Robert Wexler has a radio show? That’s one I’ll make a point to miss!
The reason the wind always blows in New Jersey is because New York really sucks!!!
PROBABLY should read like this:
The auditors with their aggressive tactics, Limbaugh claimed, even went as far as requesting to go to Limbaugh's residences to determine which one he lived in.
They were probably trying to determine residency.
Doesn’t it, though!
Oh, I thought you were talking about Limbaugh!
LOL no!
I think that was one of the many reasons E Dole lost in NC. She “visited” us so rarely. Then she went on the radio in Raleigh and proclaimed that she had visited every county while campaigning. Horsefeathers! Our county GOP had begged her for years to come her to help us raise some money, but she had declined. She did have the audacity to ask that we donate some of the little we had to keep her in DC though. lol
I soincerely think in addition to Obama’s coat tails, Hagans win was a rejection of Dole who seemed to think she owned the seat and didn’t need to come home.
I wish voters in other states would hold their reps to the fire for how little time they spend in their supposed home states. Hillary would be a great place to start.
When I was a trucker, I had to fill out a daily Log book. I could only barely account like that.
Next, Rush should run the numbers and state how much NY has taken from him during his stay here.
I think NY is looking for Rush to open his checkbook and say “HOW MUCH to make you ba*****s GO AWAY!” Like he had to do against that FLA AG.
So true! He loves to brag about his wealth.
He figures he is MUCH superior to you and I.
.....He figures he is MUCH superior to you and I. ...
He is. Believe it
I'm proud to say that I try to avoid paying taxes in a place that spends it in ways I don't approve.
Way to go Rush!
Mark
Rush moved out a long time ago...he's stating now he will not be doing BUSINESS in NY anymore because of the taxes...
Superior to you perhaps. Speak for yourself.
**So true! He loves to brag about his wealth.**
WHICH RUSH have you been listening too????????
Over the 20 years I’ve been listening to Mr. Limbaugh, I probably heard him talk about his INCOME or Taxes in DOLLAR TERMS ... MAYBE 5 times.. and those were always to piss off a LLORT who called in to WHINE about HOw much rush makes.
As for the rest:
You’re words and Deeds are of NO Acquaintance.. so BEGONE, LLORT!
**Speak for yourself.**
Ahh , yes, I remember you now... Rush’s Bowel movements are superior to you, humblelessbummer
Begone LLORT.
From what I hear, Califorinia is even worse. They try to “Source Tax” the portion of your retirement income that was earned while you lived in their state....long after you’ve moved away. I dodged the bullet on that one because I always lived on base (that means it was a Federal reservation, not property of the state) while stationed there.”
I have a couple of friends who earned their pensions inside Kalifornia and were being taxed when they moved to Missouri- actually double taxed—by both states.
It is my understanding that a class action lawsuit on behalf of pensioners who no longer lived in Kalifornia was brought many years ago and Kalifornia lost—the basis was “taxation without representation” because none of these people coupld vote in Kalifornia any longer.
I think they are not being taxed any longer by Kalifornia, but I can call them and get that clarified.
