"Fall Weekend" will be taking the place of the holiday formerly known as "Columbus Day" at Brown University this fall.
The faculty of the Ivy League university voted at a meeting Tuesday to establish a new academic and administrative holiday in October called "Fall Weekend" that coincides with Columbus Day, but that doesn't bear the name of the explorer.
Hundreds of Brown students had asked the Providence, R.I. school to stop observing Columbus Day, saying Christopher Columbus's violent treatment of Native Americans he encountered was inconsistent with Brown's values.

In my experience, even the lefties (those I speak to one on one) cringe at this type of political correctness. This makes one (me) wonder about the collective brain behind it. Some of those lefties were (2004-2008) Bush bashers, and some of their stated reasons for doing so would sound reasonable to a conservative (high spending, failure to finish quickly in Iraq). The problem is, those persons “responded” by voting for Obama (although a few have since thrown him under the bus).
There’s a lot of “gray” out there. Use that to your advantage.
Oh, I do.....I only spout off on FR....it’s the only place I feel free to....With the few lefties I know/meet, I generally ask quiet questions that makes them think....
No mention of the hostility on the part of the indians in the area or the fact that they were canibals?
