The ˜Valkyrie' actor started plans to produce the 60s western - which is about two lovable bank robbers - last year and hopes to star in the with his close friend John Travolta.

A source said: "It has been a pet project of his that has been on the back-burner for years. But now he's ready to go, and will most likely happily eschew the enormous salary that he normally commands."

When the movie goes ahead Tom will revive the role of Sundance - previously played by Robert Redford - and John, 55, is expected to play Cassidy.

A friend told Britain's Daily Mirror: "Butch and Sundance is a labour of love for Tom. He was eight years old when he saw the original and it made an impression that has stayed with him all his life. He can't wait to get to work."

I was halfway into saying the exact thing when I had a phonecall.

Mistake, I think, on Cruise’s part.

His best movie to date has been “The Last Samurai.” He was outstanding as was everything else about that show.

Apparently, like Russell Crowe, Cruise can really hit a theme of courage/values/inspiration out of the park. I can’t think of any other movie he’s done that carried such a theme....Top Gun coming close, but actually ending up a self-doubt/macho/chick flick.

Cassidy’s been done, and it isn’t that inspirational.

Seriously(kinda), the only way cruise is gonna make this movie fly is if he and travolta do alot of mission impossible style super slo mo stunts with kung foo horses and uma thurman is their sidekick with her samurai sword chopping up all the bolivians.

Also, they need to work in some evil nazi subplot somehow. And a funny chinaman like whatshisface from karate kid.

Then the movie would make it...maybe.
