‘Tea Parties’ — A New Political Movement Is Brewing (Tea Party/Tax Revolt updates and links)
Fox News ^ | April 4, 2008 | Peter Roff

Posted on 04/04/2009 12:54:21 PM PDT by abb

Washington’s continued mishandling of the economic crisis has disquieted the electorate. The bad economic numbers, the precipitous decline in the stock market, the dramatic increase in government spending and the tax increases lying just over the horizon paint a picture of an out-of-control federal government grasping at straws in the search for solutions.

snip

In the case of the current crisis the blame appears to have been assigned almost totally to Obama, at least by the thousands of U.S. taxpayers attending near-spontaneous “tea parties” in protest of the Democrats agenda of more taxes, increased spending, higher deficits and a surge of borrowing to pay for it all. These mass protests, which have been occurring in different spots almost weekly — 2,000 people in St. Louis, 3,000 people in Cincinnati, 6,000 people in Orlando — promise to culminate on Tax Day, April 15, with at least 300 protests at sites large and small according to the “official” Tax Day Tea Party Web site.

As was the case with the Obama campaign, the new “Tea Party Movement” is bringing people out to engage in politics, many for the first time in their lives. And, again, as was the case with the Obama presidential campaign, these activists are making liberal use of new media technologies like Twitter and Facebook to find supporters and allies, to meet each other and to establish a sense of community...

snip

The “Tea Parties” augur the beginnings of a new political movement, it is now clear, that may eventually exceed the power of MoveOn.org and others of the new liberal pressure groups in their ability to influence the votes of politicians in Washington as well as state capitals in every region of the country.

Palm Desert, California - April 15.....Mrs. Bat and I are already weighing the "poster board" options.

...pretty sure at least one of 'em will say "Arrogance? how dare Obama enslave my grandkids".

Another front-runner: "Barack in '08, Broke in '09"

Wouldn’t it be great if someone could grab the reins and organize all these people into a new Party to replace the dying GOP?

I would be satisfied if we could seize control of the existing GOP, turn it inside out, and utilize the infrastructure already in place.

Sounds less chaotic that what I am thinking is going to be necessary,

a big ol’ RESET, including clearing out all federal laws, politicians, and employees, and starting over with the base Constitution and Bill of Rights.

All these Tea Parties... and “Revolts”....

But how many are actually going to stop paying their taxes?

At the Boston Tea Party, not only did they refuse to pay the tax, but they destroyed the property of the oppressive government by dumping the tea.

Is that what these parties are about? encouraging Americans not to pay their income tax? I would be all for it if I knew that I wasn’t going to be alone.

Or is this just symbolism over substance?
So far, I don’t see much press coverage of even that.
I’m afraid that regardless of how many people participate in these “revolts”, nobody in a position of power is really going to care, because it simply has no teeth.

Maybe if we really DID revolt, by actually de-funding this unconstitutional government, something could come of it.
I already know how the press would report it.... So maybe it is time to start defunding them too.

You really think the mainstream media cares what we think of them as long as we pay the bill through our cable company?

They just yawn.

“The Tea Party” seems a natural choice, easy to remember, easy to understand and with historical significance. Everybody would know what we’re about.
