(IsraelNN.com) After years of testing and modification, the Tavor assault rifle is headed towards becoming the IDF infantry’s chief assault rifle following a successful performance in Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.
The IDF has completed its study of the weapon’s performance in the Gaza fighting and a report will be handed in to the Chief Infantry and Paratroopers Officer, Brig.-Gen. Yossi Buchner, and to OC Ground Forces Command, Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrachi, within the next few weeks.

About all one could want is for it to be pushing something other than a 5.56mm pill. A 6.5mm pill of about 120gr would be a huge improvement...
Not very pretty but still interesting. I think I would want a longer barrel since that bull-pup design allows a pretty short overall length even with a 20 inch one. That short one is too close to the ears for me.
Check out the FN FS2000. Similar design - fun to shoot & a very accurate carbine.
This may sounds crazy but imho this gun should have several 'flavors' to accept the various calibers e.g. 7.62x39, 308, 9mm just for the variety.
Not bad but too pricey for that caliber, a 6.5 would be better, I can get a bullpup mod for my Mini 14 that would be similar.

I agree. From everything I have read going all the way back to WDM Bell to modern testing, the 6.5mm seems the best compromise for size and weight. It performs about as well as a .30 yet can be made with a higher ballistic coefficient and still not have severe recoil.
I remember when I was a kid back in the 60’s. I ordered a Swedish Mauser through the mail and also a hundred rounds of those old 160 grain round nose military surplus rounds. Those bullets were extremely long and would penetrate the largest trees I could find. Actually astounded people including me when they would see the things penetrate a four foot thick tree.
What ever will poke a hole in a brown shirt is fine with me.
Yeah that was my thought. Nice looking cover, not enough guts. 6.5 / 7 mm / 7.62 would add a lot of punch.
If you are a lefty, just remember to keep your mouth open to catch the ejected brass. You will want to save that because you won’t be able to get once fired 5.56 MIL brass any more. Same goes for us righties when shooting from our weak side.
Yup. Those 160gr 6.5mm pills have an incredible sectional density.
This, BTW, is why the bullet that killed JFK was no “magic” bullet. It was just typical of what a 6.5mm 160gr pill could do — keep going, and going, and going...
Most of these bullpup rifles have some selection you can make on the ejection port for left/right ejection - in the field.
Here’s a view from the left - you can see that there’s a port on the left that is blocked off right now, but you could swap the plug and open the left side, plug the right and you’re in business.
The more I learn about ballistics and see what is being done in the long-range world, the more I find myself gravitating to 6.5mm - in some form factor. There’s so many to choose from:
6.5x55 Swede,
6.5x47 Lapua
.260 Rem (a .308 necked down to 6.5mm)
.264 WinMag (a barrel-burning SOB, tho)
6.5x06 (.30-06 necked down)
6.5x284 Win (same results as a 6.5x06, in a short action)
And now the 6.5 Creedmore.
I think I’m going to build me a boomstick in the last one.
