It was at the end of May last year, about one week before Barack Obama had sealed the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, that Daphene McFerren sent a letter to Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
McFerren, the director of the University of Memphis' Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change, was already planning a conference for April of 2009 that would examine the impact of Obama's historic candidacy. She explained her ambitions to Wright and invited him to come and speak.
Less than a week later, Wright accepted, agreeing to the speaking fee of $4,000 that McFerren felt was well below the going rate for the man who served as pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ that Obama and his family had attended in Chicago.
On Friday evening at the University of Memphis' Rose Theatre, Wright will be the keynote speaker at a conference titled "The Obama Phenomenon: Race and Political Discourse in the United States today."
While McFerren stresses that the conference, which runs all day Friday and Saturday, will offer much more to talk about than the role Wright played in the 2008 presidential election process, she knows Wright will draw attention. And she hopes Wright's appearance will help more Memphians see beyond the caricature of him so often represented.
"I had not met him personally, but this is someone with degrees from major institutions and honorary degrees, respected by blacks and whites, yet around April of 2008 the media was presenting him in ways that did not capture the man I saw on paper or people that knew him as a minister who worked with his community for change," McFerren said.
McFerren remembers the headlines, especially those that appeared after Wright's appearance at the National Press Club...

And this is in conservative Tennessee?

Hint...
"Their founding document [the Weather Underground's] called for the establishment of a "white fighting force" to be allied with the "Black Liberation Movement" and other "anti-colonial" movements[1] to achieve "the destruction of US imperialism and the achievement of a classless world: world communism."..."-Berger, Dan (2006). That would be the black ghettos of Memphis where all the congressmen get indicted and many actually go to prison.
Here comes his racist message and his hatred for America.

(some key excerpts)
["(Jose) Diaz-Balart is the son of Rafael Diaz-Balart y Guitierrez (a former Cuban politician). He has three bothers, Rafael Diaz-Balart (a banker), Mario Diaz-Balart (a US Congressman) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (also a US Congressman). His aunt, Mirta Diaz-Balart, was Fidel Castro's first wife."

JOSE DIAZ-BALART, TELEMUNDO NETWORK: "Liberation theology in Nicaragua in the mid-1980's was a pro-Sandinista, pro-Marxist, anti-U.S., anti-Catholic Church movement. That's it. No ifs, ands, or buts. His church apparently supported, in the mid-'80s in Nicaragua, groups that supported the Sandinista dictatorships and that were opposed to the Contras whose reason for being was calling for elections. That's all I know. I was there.
I saw the churches in Nicaragua that he spoke of, and the churches were churches that talked about the need for violent revolution and I remember clearly one of the major churches in Managua where the Jesus Christ on the altar was not Jesus Christ, he was a Sandinista soldier, and the priests talked about the corruption of the West, talked about the need for revolution everywhere, and talked about 'the evil empire' which was the United States of America."
REV. BOB SCHENCK, NATIONAL CLERGY COUNCIL: "it's based in Marxism. At the core of his [Wright's] theology is really an anti-Christian understanding of God, and as part of a long history of individuals who actually advocate using violence in overthrowing those they perceive to be oppressing them, even acts of murder have been defended by followers of liberation theology. That's very, very dangerous."
SCHENCK: "I was actually the only person escorted to Dr. Wright. He asked to see me, and I simply welcomed him to Washington, and then I said Dr. Wright, I want to bring you a warning: your embrace of Marxist liberation theology. It is contrary to the Gospel, and you need, sir, to abandon it. And at that he dropped the handshake and made it clear that he was not in the mood to dialogue on that point."

U. of Memphis is NOT "conservative."
Like every other college & university in America, U. of Memphis has been inundated with Socialist/Marxist/Communist professors indoctrinating students with their propaganda for decades!
Here comes his racist message and his hatred for America.
not for America.....for whites....period

Good stuff, eh?
Conservative Tennessee doesn’t really apply to Memphis, the city that keeps electing corrupt Fords to State and local offices.
Whichever cities liberals rule you can bet that they are the most corrupt, most depressed, and have the highest crime rates. Yet the liberals never accept that their way just does not work and only creates chaos and criminals.
“Obama’s Baby Mama”, “Soul Brother No. 1: Is Obama Black Enough?” - LOLOL. Looks like Rev. Wright will fit right in.
"He was ridin' dirty!!!"
The man is an asshat.
I am right here with you, in liberal Memphis. AND, my daughter is a JR at U of M. I am always embarrassed about the corruption of our city officials, now I am embarrassed at the University that gladly takes a LOT of my tuition and book money. Believe me, I tried to find the resources to send her elsewhere. Now, I will just have to keep her from going anywhere NEAR the University after class lets out on Thursday. There WILL be intimidation and threats made subtly, just as there were at election time. I am disgusted.
I guess the University of Memphis also likes hateful clowns.
They should just rent “IT” from Netflix.
