New Mormon anti-freeper site and campaign to bankrupt FR
rumor mill | March 29, 2009 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/29/2009 2:35:03 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

I understand there is a new anti-freeper site started by disgruntled former and present Mormon FReepers and it is their intention of bankrupting FR during the coming Freepathon by withholding their donations and disrupting our activities. Well, all I can say is, if they feel that badly against FR, by all means they should withhold their donations and drop out of FR. But it they attempt to disrupt our operations I will guarantee they will no longer be members of FR. If that is their wish, so be it.

I'm not going to try to defend FR from their claims of religious persecution, but I will say that Mormons have and always have had free reign to post their threads on FR just as all other religious groups have enjoyed. Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will. And Mormons have always been welcome here. I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.

If you are one who has left or is leaving, I wish you well, but disruption of FR is not welcome and will not be tolerated.

And this is not the first time such activity has been attempted by groups of disgruntled former FReepers. Good luck with that. There is always some group that feels FR should be bent to their way of thinking and end up saying my way or the highway. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not changing so I guess it's the highway. Is it Feb 8 yet?

God bless.

While I don't agree with all your points, Logophile, your post is the best I have seen from a mormon.

Instead of calling for censorship on FR, you say this: "Let them say what they will, unimpeded. As I said before, the our opponents keep us on our toes while presenting us the opportunity to declare our message. In my experience, they do far less harm to the Church than thin-skinned Mormons do."

Photobucket

If mormons are so convinced of the truth of their beliefs, they should welcome the chance to see them in black and white and available for ALL to see. If this article is accurate enough to be posted in Ensign Magazine for informing the general membership of the mormon community, then it is accurate enough for the FR viewers.

I really don't understand why more mormons don't take advantage of the official site, LDS.org, or go to the Meridian Magazine site and just READ the articles that are posted there instead of trying to have the posting of them on FR shut down.

As you say, "One lone Mormon defender should be able to deal with 50 or more, because he has the truth on his side.".....

More and more, instead of mormon defense of the faith here we are seeing whining, accusations and complaining about the FORM of our comments instead of prideful defense against the CONTENT of them, and the posting of doctrine in closed threads where debate is forbidden.

I do have one question. Several of us here were members back in the days when there was pride among the mormon community that we were "different" from those Christians, when there was still an accord within the general community with the disdain of the early mormon leaders towards Christianity. This has all changed.

My question is, if it is so important now to be seen as Christian, why was there not a revelation (or even a manifesto) from the Prophet in SLC to that effect? I would think that something as huge as the very reason for the founding of the LDS church being cast aside should come directly from the lips of the Prophet as a command from God. That it hasn't is, IMO an indication that perhaps the LDS church doesn't intend to become Christian, but to bring the Christian under the LDS law of consecration:

You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the law of consecration as contained in this, the book of Doctrine and Covenants [he displays the book], in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion."

Well, I don’t think anyone should be called a moron here for any reason. If people want to be Mormons and promote it, hey, that’s all good.

My issues with Mormonism come up when they try to pass themselves off as just another Christian denomination, when they are really an offshoot diversion/corruption. We all may have once had common roots, but Mormons went off the beaten path when they put more stock in the words a guy who dug up a box of golden dinnerware, rather than in the words of Jesus Christ.

I have found logophile to be one of the most rational of the Mormon posters.

I have always been able to converse politely with him about the differences I have found between Mormonism and Christianity. It is refreshing.

Those currently on the list:

The list of known Mormon-haters on FreeRepublic.com aimhigh, Alamo-Girl, Alex Murphy, aMorePerfectUnion, Broker, brytlea, Colofornian, colorcountry, CommerceComet, dangus, delacoert, demshateGod, ejonesie22, elcid1970, Elsie, Enough_Deceit, FastCoyote fishtank, genetic homophobe, GLDNGUN, Godzilla, Goldsborough, Graybeard58, greyfoxx39, humblegunner, LiteKeeper, livius, longmarch, luckystarmom, Marysecretary, MayflowerMadam, metmom, MHGinTN, mquinnn, Osage Orange, P-Marlowe, pabianice, RaceBannon, reaganaut, rightazrain, RobRoy, Ruy Dias de Bivar, SENTINEL, SJSAMPLE, SkyDancer, SkyPilot, sneakin. svcw Tennessee Nana, Terabitten, the long march, Utah Binger, vladimir998, Vroomfondel, Zakeet, ... and Drango

(In my best Casey Kasem voice) "Moving up one notch to number three on our charts..." Given that Greg West referred to me as the "chief offender" of "posts that were generated by antis over one week" who "didn't make an appearance tonight", I fully expect to see my name take it all the way to the coveted #1 slot. "Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars!"

FR is an anonymous site, but if he starts trying to post personal info, then it becomes libel...and actionable.

Then be forewarned. Greg West is actively monitoring the IP addresses of visitors to his SPAM site, and is trying to match them up with the IP addresses of various FReeper identities.

The reason I asked about ************* is that there has been a freeper (I suspect it's one of our anti-Mormons who has been visiting the site with some regularity (50+ pageloads) and he's doing it from an IP address at *************. I suspect that it's probably delacoert, the most anti of the antis. Even if it's not him, there's an anti stationed at an Army base, using a government network, to spread anti-Mormon hate.

When you post on an open forum, and you post about the “anti-mormons” (and we on this thread have been mentioned specifically as anti-mormon by this Greg West character,) then yes you are talking about and to all of us, IMO.

I didn't ask for your forgiveness. I have not wronged you; therefore, I do not need it.

Again, another post I wrote to someone else that you had to jump into. Yes, it is a discussion board and that's what it's meant for, however, you're answering someone else’s questions, which is weird.

He is right. You can go years to LDS services and never hear about it. It is hardly ever mentioned in LDS literature. Mormons believe it, but it is not in their scriptures. It is found in some old sermons and a popular couplet that people quote. Other than that, it is passed on mostly verbally.

However, anti-Mormons have it as a favorite topic. That more than anything else keeps the topic alive publically.

That is not a denomination!

This is indicative of the mindset of those whose loyalty is to a "denomination" rather than to Christ! I have posted that I belong to a "nondenominational Christian" church, but that doesn't give mormons a handle to hang their attacks on because my loyalty is not to the physical church body, but to Him that holds our souls in His hands.

LOL....It's alphabetical silly. Maybe if you change your screen name to AAlex Murphy or 1Alex Murphy, you'll come out on top.

This character can monitor me all he wants. I'm very, very close to coming out in real life anyway. I want Mormons to know who I am, and recognize what a wretch God saved in me. He can't hurt me at my job, and my family and close friends know my story. Perhaps it is time for everyone to know - I am not afraid of him.

***Whew, must be hot to wear in the summer!***

My mom knew an old man back in the 1930s who wore long johns summer and winter. His reason was...”If it will keep out the cold in winter it will keep out the heat in summer!”

Actually, Resty is correct, & I can't count how many times I have caught many here who claim to be ex-members, w/ family in the church, w/ long term ancestors in the church, etc., who don't really know jack about the church as has been proven here w/ rebuttals.

Oh, we have noticed the new tactic of trying to discredit the exmormons and their message by claiming they were never members.

It's about as successful as your running away when your arguments are shown to be lacking in substance.

Thanks for the link. It was all new to me. I have no connection to that group, and I don’t intend to have any in the future. I do my own thing. But I find it interesting. And I might add I think all this talk about law suits and bankrupting FR is a lot of nonsense.

Wrong. If you consider yourself "anti-mormon", that is your problem. If I say "these anti-mormon people" and YOU include yourself in that group, it only reflects what YOU think of yourself.

"(and we on this thread have been mentioned specifically as anti-mormon by this Greg West character,)'

I don't know this person or really know what it is you are talking about

This anti-mormon stuff, with me, goes back to the primaries, just because I stated I was voting for Romney over McCain. Once I made that statement, I was "attacked" by what I now call the anti-mormon people. I only remember a couple of their names and yours isn't one of them.

I've told her plenty of times that I am a member of a congregation that is Evangelical Free.

I also regularly attend Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish, New Pilgrim Baptist Church and West Valley Assembly of God and Jordan Presbyterian.

I guess resty can't quite wrap her mind around the fact that there is no great disagreement among the ranks of Christians that the LDS teaches her about

I was talking to Fred, not you, I pinged you because of Fred's response.

Reread my posts, I'm on your side.

The RM advised Fred (fproy2222) to follow the methods of our Catholic Friends when accused of worshiping Mary, and rebut it every time with fact, real answers, no matter how many times it happens. Fred doesn't even do this once. Never backs up the accusation that we are “lying” or Misrepresenting” with the facts.

This is what he was doing in response to your posts.

Of course it is because he can't, which is another matter.

Perhaps I should have put Fred's name in the body of the post but thought since his was the first name in the posted to listing it was clear I was addressing him. Sorry for the confusion.

No, the mod cited the example of the Catholics when people say they worship Mary and to actually refute it with ANSWERS, not deflection and obfuscation, which is your forte’.

And it was YOUR PROPHET that taught God is a man, P-Man is merely quoting, as we all do, which is more than enough, there is no need to make anything more up...
