I understand there is a new anti-freeper site started by disgruntled former and present Mormon FReepers and it is their intention of bankrupting FR during the coming Freepathon by withholding their donations and disrupting our activities. Well, all I can say is, if they feel that badly against FR, by all means they should withhold their donations and drop out of FR. But it they attempt to disrupt our operations I will guarantee they will no longer be members of FR. If that is their wish, so be it.
I'm not going to try to defend FR from their claims of religious persecution, but I will say that Mormons have and always have had free reign to post their threads on FR just as all other religious groups have enjoyed. Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will. And Mormons have always been welcome here. I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.
If you are one who has left or is leaving, I wish you well, but disruption of FR is not welcome and will not be tolerated.
And this is not the first time such activity has been attempted by groups of disgruntled former FReepers. Good luck with that. There is always some group that feels FR should be bent to their way of thinking and end up saying my way or the highway. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not changing so I guess it's the highway. Is it Feb 8 yet?
God bless.
Thank you. He already has.
There ARE your words...."His whole reasoning is to try to marginalized the Lords Chruch so again not interested in your game!"...and you keep claiming the mormon church is the Lord's Church...prove it!
Being wrong is their forte. Do one thing and do it right I guess...
Does anyone here know any more about this "Christ" of which he speaks
I'm Christian. We hate sin, but we love the sinners.
Like I said, I think Mormons are part of a cult, but with the rare exception of the odd group of old men raping 12 year old wives, I've rarely if ever heard of the kind of attacks Jim heard were going to be done against this forum.
That bothers me and it is disturbing.
In my life most Mormons are nice people with well behaved families, but if what Jim brought to our attention is 100% real, that would be most bothersome to me about them these days.
Amen
The Book of Irony Chapter 1
1. There once was a puppy abandoned by his father. He was taken in by a band of ravening wolves.
2. He learned from them, and became large in stature and pleasing in their sight.
3. He captured many sheep for them because of his words and his works and his vigor.
4. His results were pleasing unto his masters, but promised blessings from God did not come.
5. He worked and worked and studied and learned, but still blessings did not come.
6. And many sheep were taken by his efforts.
7. Then one day his God took him from their midst and told him happiness was in being a good shepherd and gave him to the flock.
8. And when the wolves came to fall upon the flock, he knew how to fight them.
9. He was used to hard works and placed his learning and stature against them to protect the remaining sheep.
10. His outward efforts were proof of his inner love for the Lord.
11. And some sheep were protected from some wolves, and the wolves began to fear him.
12. And he said unto them “Fear me not, but fear the Lord, for by his power and command I protect his sheep.”
13. And the elders of the wolves proclaimed “he was never one of us” and ran away.
14. But the Sentinel stayed on guard, for he knew they would return....and no one fights off wolves like one raised and trained by them.
15. And he was not alone.
Excellent Sentinel.
You caught that, did you? ;)
Sounds like the Apostle Paul
Good choice.
Well, when it comes to setting cultural priorities, who are we going to follow...your bark, McGruff? Or Jesus and Paul? Here's Jesus:
"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him." (Luke 12:4-5)
So does Jesus say, "fear the socialists?" "Fear the enemies preparing to attack?" (No)
Does He say to exercise fear of the One who has authority to cast somebody into hell? (Yes)
So, indeed, our "fear" is on behalf of those who are placing their eternal spiritual lives at risk.
Sad
'Tis "sad" you'd probably apply the apostle Paul's parting message to the Ephesian church as also "sad": Paul warned them with this high-priority alert:
"I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears." (Acts 20:29-31)
Tell me something, McGruff: If you did something tearfully night and day for three years, do you think it's rather important? So what? We're just to conclude, "Oh, the man who contributed a good chunk to the New Testament -- what does he know about cultural priorities?"
Childish bickering about my god is better than your god...
Well, I'll take Paul's and Jesus' already-revealed priorities to your guesswork. Or is your anti-socialist "god"--whatever he or "it" may be--now claiming "superauthority" over other gods and has sent you as some missionary to "bicker" with us that your cultural priorities top that of other gods?
Furthermore, no one can have the gift of the HS who does not believe that Jesus is Who He said He is, as revealed in the Holy Word of God.
Excellent post!
Christ used parables, so I thought I would give it a shot. I tire of people telling us we are not what we claim to be. Maybe the lurkers now know more of our stories.
Funny who gets offended over Jesus, or maybe not
How many LDS people have you persuaded to convert to another religion?
Well, first of all it is not ME who does the converting, but GOD. Secondly, it is not about conversion to “another religion”, it is about conversion to JESUS CHRIST. And thirdly, I have helped lead at least 5 former LDS people to the Lord, and I have not been doing this long.
I don’t bash “mormons” I fight against “mormonism”. There is a difference.
With all due respect, Mountain, if you have not been a mormon, you do not know how severe the brainwashing tactics they use are.
Knowing the WHOLE STORY in advance is the best way, in our experienced opinions, to overcome this 12 step process.
Do I get a t-shirt or a certificate or something?
Of course!
....thus no other saviors needed....
In a way the LDS consider themselves to be “saviors” of others:
“The Prophet Joseph taught that you and I are to become saviors on Mount Zion. We are to gather, build temples, seek after our dead, and perform all the vital ordinances. This work welds eternal links that bind us to each other and to our fathers. We are exalted as family units.”Elder A. Theodore Tuttle, Eternal Links That Bind, April 1980
“Note that we are to become saviors for our own direct ancestors or progenitors and not for collateral relatives who are direct-line ancestors of somebody else. Note that it is our line of ancestry that is to be preserved, for the promises of Abraham come to us through these lines of lineal.”Elder Theodore M. Burton, Genealogy: A Personal Responsibility, October 1972
There are other quotes of this type as well.
