Cape "tea party" canceled; City fears too many attendees

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A tea party to protest government spending and taxing is canceled. Canceled by the government.

Why? They feel too many people could show-up.

Lynn Rosko planned to hold a tax payer tea party at Jaycee Park in Cape Coral on April 1st. The idea was announced at a Cape Coral City Council meeting, then an e-mail blast by the Republican Party and it was mentioned in the local media.

With all of that attention, the City of Cape Coral felt there could be more than 500 people attending the tea party.

Therefore Rosko needed to get a permit and insurance for the event. Rosko says she's not willing to get insurance and accept liability for something that a stranger could do. Rosko told WINK News, "I have rescinded any organizing or supervision or what ever you want to call it over this tea party on April 1st."

WINK News spoke to the director of parks for Cape Coral. He says that even now if Rosko is willing to get insurance for the event he'll likely re-authorize it.

For now Rosko's event is canceled, she's encouraging people to attend the April 15th Tax Payer Tea Party in Centennial Park in Fort Myers.

Dearest King George,

Exactly right! The powers of the government are delegated to them from US.

The governments job is NOT to tell us that our constitutionally-guaranteed rights are too expensive to support, their job is to support our constitutionally-guaranteed rights REGARDLESS. If the people require expensive insurance (they don't, actually) then BUY IT.

This creeping "your rights are too expensive" is behind a lot of so-called safety and health authoritarianism, too. You have the unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, unless it costs somebody some money. Then you lose your rights. All of them.

Who the blazes cares what the city government says?

Where in the Constitution does it say that the right to assemble requires insurance?

Did Bostonians wait for an EPA permit to dump the tea?

Maybe Eric Holder is right - we ARE a nation of cowards!

Not sure, last night Hannity said he would be at Atlanta tea party but think that was April 15th, not positive though.

Do it anyway.

As I said on the duplicate thread, screw the city - protest anyway. They can't arrest everybody.

If the skanky sodomites can march freely, then the productive citizens that carry their weight can march as well.

This is unconstitutional! People, wake up out of your apathy! Stop this. Don’t let these fascists take away your freedoms! Day after day they are doing this, here a little, there a little. We must put a stop to it!

I am going to call and email the Mayor of the city and the director of parks and recreation of Cape Coral, FL.

I noticed that they never included the mayor’s name or the director of the parks in the article, so I am giving them here.

I wonder if a large number of people calling and emailing would “persuade” them to change their mind?

“Did Bostonians wait for an EPA permit to dump the tea?”

“Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”

I say “Show up anyway.” Don’t use a PA system. Just show up with signs, etc.

I wonder how much insurance was required for the police killer celebration in Oakland.

Gee...it’s a good thing the actual Americans who held that little tea party a couple hundred years ago got their permit, huh? What courage, what patriotism, what determination those Cape Coral folks are showing, huh? They’ll hold their little show, just as long as it’s not going to offend or upset anyone. Anybody who wonders why the left wins all the time, maybe it has something to do with the spinelessness of the right!!

He says that even now if Rosko is willing to get insurance for the event he'll likely re-authorize it.

What a great opportunity for an insurance company to grab great PR by donating the days coverage.

Of course it will NOT be Progressive...

Canceled by the government.

WTF?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This is an unacceptable move by the local government. The people should show up anyway and ASK to be arrested. I would. And will if presented with this type of response from my local government.

FreedomWorks can cover the Cape Coral event. Just email me the details. We can attach the event as a rider to our insurance.

Cape Coral can have its rally, if it wants to.
