Specter Facing Pressure From All Sides as 2010 Vote Nears
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 03-23-09 | SUSAN DAVIS

Legions of Pennsylvania Republicans and independents switched to vote Democratic in 2008, and GOP Sen. Arlen Specter needs them back.

Pennsylvania's longest-serving senator could be in for the political fight of his career in 2010. Mr. Specter faces primary challenges from the conservative wing of the Republican Party angered by his support of President Barack Obama's $787 billion stimulus package. Meanwhile, Democrats are gearing up for a general-election battle.

The more immediate problem for the 79-year-old senator is the April 2010 Republican primary, where he is expected to face at least three opponents. Only those registered as Republicans can vote in the primary, and it is a more conservative electorate after 239,000 Republicans and independents switched affiliations last year to vote in the Democratic presidential primary between Hillary Clinton and Mr. Obama.

The latter will need a person with spine who will challenge in every way possible Obama’s selections as he attempts to remake the judiciary the way he is doing to the executive.

A SPINE? Well, that eliminates almost every single Republican in the U.S. Senate right there.

Don't misunderestimate (Thanks President Bush for the neat word!) the power of The One’s email list.

True many Obama supporters have had the veil lifted from their eyes, but they and the “Obama Yutes” are a formidable enemy and many are still mesmerized/duped.

Good. Get rid of him. We need some new and YOUNG blood in Congress, blood that hasn’t been tainted.

Unions weren’t the problem in 2004. George Bush was the problem. He came to PA when Specter was on the ropes against Pat Toomey and campaigned for him. Just goes to show you that if someone has to call themselves a “compassionate-conservative”, they aren’t conservative at all. The same applied in 1988 when George Herbert Walker Bush campaigned on the platform of a “kinder, gentler America”.

Please God! No more Bushes!

One of their most effective ploys.

Unless something is done soon, virtually all elections in the future will be decided by ACORN, voter fraud including voters that are Insurgent Criminal Invading Illegal Alien Colonists.

When you have pressure from all sides it is proof positive you have a fence post squarely up your ass.

Actually, I thought that pressure was coming from Barney Frank.

“Those three need to figure out amongst themselves who will step down and who will stay on the ballot.”

Good luck on that. Conservatives are rarely smart enough to figure out that splitting the conservative vote means victory for the Lib.

Spector is a career criminal.. He has made a career of criminally attacking Republican conservatives from within.

He should be defeated in the primary, or if not, wiped out in the General Election.

Its time to pull the plug on all RINOs.

This isn’t 2004. This is 2009. Unions are the biggest problem that this country is facing. Pennsylvania is one of three states where unions are planning to make a big push. If Pennsylvanians let the unions have any more power than they already wield, PA will become one huge welfare state.

I’d rather favor a provion to state and national party that if you vote against the party platform more than a certain percentage the party is allowed to cut off funding for you, and official endorsement (hence no longer a real Republican).
