4 cops shot, suspect dead after Calif. traffic stop
Police say suspect behind two separate shootings involving officers
OAKLAND, Calif. - Four officers were in critical condition and a suspect dead on Saturday after gunfire at a traffic stop led to a massive manhunt that ended in a shootout, police said.
Two officers were shot in the first incident just after 1 p.m. after they stopped the suspect's vehicle in east Oakland, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
The suspect fled the scene on foot into a nearby neighborhood, police said, leading to an intense manhunt by dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies.
Streets were roped off and an entire area of east Oakland shut to traffic.

The perp name 27 year old parole Lovelle Mixon
Yes. In a slum in Charlotte,NC. My team was pulling out two crack dealers from a ghetto bldg. and in the next bldg. his buddy thought he`d get a drop on us. NO WAY!, I was doing extraction duty (point) and I used my mirror and saw him and drew down and he dropped and ran, he thought he was ready, that is one...he was ready, but not brave. got his weapon, he blended. What, you people want war stories?
Perp Lavelle Mixon 27 y/o on parole for ADW. Earlier report of perp being 16 is apparently incorrect.

ehh hmm.. ;-)
City Atty. John Russo said tonight that he had been told all four were dead. The officers’ names have not been released. The suspect was killed in the gunfire.
“It’s senseless,” Russo said. “We didn’t lose four officers in the earthquakes or the worst of the fires. You want to find a meaning in it. It underscores what a difficult job it is to be a police officer.”
> What, you people want war stories?
Speaking personally, I enjoy war stories.
> ehh hmm.. ;-)
(grin!) Yeah, like that Norm!
The video I saw from a CBS station up there showed 73rd street and something, couldn’t make out the cross street. Definitely gang type of territory with a lot of sophisticated graffiti.
Looked like it to me as well. Did you note the type of Graffiti?
THREE LEO’s shot dead and two wounded trying to arrest the guy at his apartment? WTF?!?!? Unbelievable.
They released the names just now from KTVU
They maintain Ofcr Hege is alive but in grave condition.
The three veteran officers killed were all sergeants: Erv Romans, 43, , Dan Sakai, 35, and Mark Dunakin, 41,. This was the first time that any sergeants in the department have been slain. Officer John Hege, 41, of Concord is on life support at Highland Hospital.

Once, when I was young, I WALKED from Berkeley all the way down Telegraph to downtown Oakland in the middle of the night. (I was in the grip of a severe depressive episode at the time and was not rational.) Along the way I remember seeing a crowd of black guys corner a white punk rocker in a phone booth and beat him unconscious (or dead — I couldn’t tell).
Somehow, my Guardian Angel prevented me from meeting a similar fate; no one noticed me at all.
