That they needed a payoff to stick around and try to mitigate the horrific damage their company caused is nothing short of blackmail. Some of them belong in government issued pinstripes for issuing trillions of dollars of junk paper and collapsing our financial system.

Our financial system has not collapsed, where are you getting your information from? Maybe you should consider the problem was mismanagement by your government, particularly democrats of the regulations. Not so much de-regulation, but stupid regulation encouraging stupid investments. Google Community Revitalization Act for instance, there you see where a lot of the junk paper came from.
