Dems woo Specter with talk of a cleared field Total People in Discussion: 0
Posted by Josh Drobnyk at 1:45:41 PM on March 16, 2009 Gov. Ed Rendell says he, Sen. Bob Casey and Vice President Joe Biden have all talked with Sen. Arlen Specter about switching parties, but the five-term Republican isn't budging.
In an interview with New York-based RNN-TV, Rendell was asked about the speculation that Specter might jump to the Democrats given the tough fight ahead in the GOP primary.
"We've tried," Rendell said. "Myself, Senator Casey, Vice President Biden have tried to talk him into it, but he's bound and determined to stay a Republican. He doesnt want to see Republican moderates vanish from the Earth. And you know what, he is probably right."
If he were to decide otherwise, Rendell indicated Democrats would clear the field for him.
Hed be unopposed," Rendell said. "The Democrats in the Senate would welcome him. We in Pennsylvania would welcome him. I think hed be basically unopposed for the Democratic nomination and I think hed win 60-65 percent of the vote in the general election."

The only reason that I am remaining a Republican is to vote against this puke in the 2010 PA primary. I actually received a call from the GOP on Saturday and I told them to call me back after Specter was gone.

With Rendell's current popularity in the state, any endorsement by him is worth negative points.

“Keep the PA primary closed.”
I agree, 100%! In addition, I think ALL primaries across the entire country should be closed.

"When Benedict Arlen is being pushed this hard by our resident Crook and Mime"
Calling Casey our resident mime, very funny!! Good one! I'll say one thing about Casey, when I write to Specter and Casey, I never hear anything back from Specter. It's like an e-mail/letter black hole. At least with Casey, his staff sends return e-mails explaining his position. I may not agree with his positions, but at least he understands that he serves the public and has to respond to them.

Arlen Sphincter needs to just go away. Shame on those who’ve kept this slime bag in office all these years.

If Specter switches parties I think we should all demand a refund for any contributions made to the NRSC since at least 1980.

Arlen isn't good about responding to e-mail, but he doesn't duck the town hall meetings because he can actually talk and think on his feet. I've never even got an invitation to the Mime's town hall meetings. Does he even hold them?
And don't even get me started on how he replies to letters or e-mail-- everything is canned talking points or boilerplate from the DNC, much of it doesn't even address the issue you wrote about. His Dad was pretty sharp. I can't understand why the kid seems so totally clueless.

Why would Specter want to switch parties? He has more power as the GOP ranking member on the Judiciary Committee than he would have as a Democrat, with Leahy as the chairman.

Snarlen can be a ‘Maverick’ in the GOP. If he switched to ‘Rats he would be just an after thought foot soldier.
Spectacle is the new McLame and he relishes the uba RINO role.

He doesnt want to see Republican moderates vanish from the Earth. Personally, I'd like the RINOs to go the same way as the DINO(saurs).

And don't even get me started on how he [Casey] replies to letters or e-mail-- everything is canned talking points or boilerplate from the DNC, much of it doesn't even address the issue you wrote about. I think that's because Theresa Heinz's staff prepares identical canned replies for both the Senators she owns.

No need for Specter to switch. Specters real problem is he never represented the people and willnot necessarily dosoas a democrat. Specter is a LAWYER who can only think and act as a lawyer no matter what the situation.
We do not need lawyers representing us. We need Americans.
