Kerry changes his tune (and Specter asking pols for open primary; he's worried)
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | 3/15/09

U.S. Sen. John Kerry's outrage over a bailout-receiving bank's use of taxpayer money has a hypocritical ring to it.

So suggested Gannett News Service political editor Chuck Raasch Wednesday, as he called out the Massachusetts Democrat and husband of Pittsburgh pickle heiress Teresa Heinz.

---snip---

SEN. SPECTER EYES 'OPEN' 2010 PATH. Arlen Specter's "Panicky in Pennsylvania" tour continues.

The veteran Republican U.S. senator, who is openly concerned about his re-election chances after voting for the $787 billion economic stimulus bill, has been contacting state legislators, according to a Harrisburg source.

Specter supposedly has been asking the state pols about the prospect of Pennsylvania having an open primary next year.

He obviously will attempt almost anything to avoid a direct party confrontation with Pat Toomey. The former U.S. representative nearly defeated Specter in the 2004 GOP primary and has all but formally declared his intention to run again.

Specter already has one announced challenger for the Republican nomination: Peg Luksik of Johnstown, the conservative activist who has run unsuccessfully for governor three times.

Talk in Harrisburg is that Specter will change his party affiliation to Democrat if he can't persuade state lawmakers to approve an open primary.

I can’t imagine the democrats would be thrilled to run on their ticket an 80 year old senile RINO.

An friend sent me a link to this guy two days ago. I don't know anything about him apart from what I have read on the site but I do like the idea of helping elect someone other than a career politician.

Specter may be the most arrogant, self-interested, self-important member of the US Senate. He is a treasonous thug, capable of the most egregious back-stabbing I have ever seen. This bum has cheerfully sold out his nation and the American people, all for favorable coverage by the MSM. He is a classic example of a power grabbing, microphone hawking, classless, honorless political hack, breathlessly willing to do or say ANYTHING to get elected. And his threat to “become a democrat!!!” Like that needs comment!

RE: John Kerry article-didn't NYP have an article recently stating that Kerry was one of a handful of pols that got donations from a couple of banks, After those banks had received TARP funds last year?

Has Mr. Kerry ever been asked if this is true and if he intends on returning the $?

He’s been a Democrat for 40+ years.

Peg Luksik said last week that she is planning on running. Whether Specter runs as a D or R he is going into retirement this upcoming election cycle. Good riddance.

"I’d like to crush Specter’s pea-sized testicles with the heel of my boot."

You're being much too kind; I envision them as the inverted kind requiring a microscopic examination.

I doubt he has much else to commend his "manhood," either.

We all need to support whoever Specter runs against in the primaries.

“We shouldn’t have open primaries anywhere in this country! Look at the disaster they provided in the last election!”

Registered Republicans in PA ought to tell the GOP there that they will not contribute money or register with the Republican Party if there are open primaries.

What’s the sense of registering Republican, if you have no more say in picking the REPUBLICAN candidate than a NONRepublican?

The state GOP has to approve an open primary, at least, that is what happened in CA. I doubt that will happen.
